We are continuing to spotlight and recognize our amazing team of nurses, and today we are highlighting our Assistant Director of Nursing, Jackie Orr! 💚
Jackie has 39 years in healthcare, including 34 years as an RN. She shared that her favorite thing about working at Hickory Grove is helping our elders obtain their best degree of care both physically and emotionally. She believes they deserve the best treatment and that they are still giving back to others.
Outside of work, Jackie enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband in their now empty nest, visiting family as much as possible, watching sports (especially football - Go Bills🏈!), and even bird watching outside her home.
Jackie shared that nursing truly chose her. Nearly her entire family is in healthcare, and she said it has always been in her genes. She even found old stories and drawings from kindergarten about her “future job as a nurse,” ending with the words, “I just can’t wait to be a nurse. Can you?”
When Jackie asked coworkers how they would describe her, the responses included selfless, compassionate, dependable, knowledgeable, supportive, resilient, and spirited.
Her advice to others going into nursing: You are embarking on an adventure that you cannot even imagine. Don’t be afraid to take roads you never thought about. Do your job for the patient and never for yourself. Don’t do it for awards or recognition, do it to save a life, catch an error, report an abnormal finding, and pay attention. Know what you don’t know, ask questions, and double check the answers. The best nurses are the ones working hard in the background and remaining nameless, but knowing they made a difference.
Thank you, Jackie, for your leadership, support, and dedication to both our team and our residents. Your compassion and steady presence do not go unnoticed, and we are so thankful for everything you do each day at Hickory Grove. 💚
