One of the first questions many families ask is, “How do people usually pay for assisted living?”

The answer can depend on savings, retirement income, long-term care insurance, veterans benefits, home sale proceeds, and other family resources.

It is also important to understand what is included in the monthly cost and what may be separate.

We created a short guide to help families begin thinking through common.

Many family caregivers carry guilt when they start thinking about assisted living or memory care.

But asking for help does not mean you love your parent, spouse, or loved one any less.

Sometimes care needs grow beyond what one person can safely manage alone. That may include medications, bathing, meals, nighttime confusion, wandering, falls, or constant supervision.

Exploring options does not mean you have made a final decision. It simply means you are trying to understand what kind of support may be needed.

Marian Place is here to answer questions when your family is ready.

Moving into assisted living or memory care is a big transition for both the resident and the family.

The first few days are often about getting familiar: new faces, new routines, new surroundings, and a different daily rhythm.

Families should not expect everything to feel settled immediately. Adjustment takes time. Familiar items, gentle routines, family communication, and consistent caregivers can all help.

We created a short guide to help families understand what the first 30 days may look like.

Families often hear the words Alzheimer’s and dementia used together, but they do not mean exactly the same thing.

Dementia is a general term for changes in memory, thinking, reasoning, and daily function. Alzheimer’s disease is one common cause of dementia.

For families, the exact diagnosis matters — but so does what you are seeing day to day:

Repeated questions.
Confusion with routines.
Missed medications.
Changes in judgment.
Needing more reminders or supervision.

We created a short guide to help families understand the difference.

Helpful Watch for Families

Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related changes are not always easy to recognize at first. They can show up slowly through memory changes, missed routines, confusion, changes in judgment, or growing safety concerns.

This video shares stories from people living with Alzheimer’s disease and the loved ones caring for them.

If your family is beginning to notice changes, asking questions early can help you understand what support may be needed.

You do not have to be ready to make a decision before reaching out.

Talking with a parent about assisted living can be one of the hardest conversations a family has.

It helps to start early, before a crisis forces the decision. Instead of beginning with a decision already made, try starting with questions:

“How have you been feeling at home lately?”
“Is anything becoming harder?”
“What worries you most about the future?”
“What kind of help would make daily life easier?”

The goal is not to win an argument. The goal is to begin a conversation built on safety, respect, and care.

We created a guide to help families start that conversation.

Families often ask, “How do we know when it’s time for assisted living?”

Usually, it is not one single event. It may be a pattern of smaller changes:

Missed medications.
Falls or safety concerns.
Spoiled food in the refrigerator.
Confusion at night.
Isolation.
Caregiver exhaustion.

Asking the question does not mean you have made a decision. It simply means you are paying attention to your loved one’s safety and quality of life.

We created a short guide to help families think through the signs.

Caregiver burnout can happen slowly.

At first, you may be helping with a few errands or appointments. Over time, it can become medications, meals, bathing, doctor visits, nighttime confusion, safety concerns, and constant worry.

Needing help does not mean you have failed. It may simply mean your loved one’s needs have grown beyond what one person can safely manage alone.

If your family is beginning to ask whether more support may be needed, Marian Place is here to answer questions.

Families are welcome to call or schedule a tour before making a decision.
