Douglas Jackson Ladish, 83, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2026, with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, but the title he treasured most was “Poppy,” a name given to him by his grandchildren.

Born on January 24, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Charles Eugene Ladish and Jewel “Jackie” Myers Ladish, Doug grew up in South Charleston and graduated from South Charleston High School in 1961. A true Mountaineer, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from West Virginia University in 1966 and later added an MBA in Marketing and Finance from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1983.

At WVU, Doug was an active member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and served as Chapter President in 1964. His loyalty to the fraternity never faded. In the mid-1960s, he was instrumental in advocating to secure approval for the new chapter house, which still stands today. For many years, he served on the Alumni Advisory Board, working alongside younger fraternity brothers to help keep the chapter vibrant and strong.

Doug spent more than 40 years in the chemical industry at Reichhold Inc. and later at Dow Reichhold Specialty Latex, where his career encompassed science, marketing, manufacturing, and business management. Rushir Reddy Sai, 19, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on October 13, 2026. A beloved son, younger brother, grandson, and friend, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him - often without saying very much at all.
Born in Queens, New York, Rushir grew up on Long Island, in Ohio, and in North Carolina. A graduate of Panther Creek High School, he attended Indiana University Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business, studying finance and supply chain management. He loved his life at IU and explored his interests through peer tutoring, internships, and working with his father at RealtyBlocks.
Rushir had a wonderfully mischievous streak. Humble about his knowledge and abilities, he rarely felt the need to announce what he could do. He waited for the right moment to show it. Reflecting on the many sides of him, his mother and brother found a phrase that captured him: हमारा छुपा रुस्तम - our Chhupa Rustam, the quietly capable person whoalways had another surprise waiting.
He loved to tease, and he could make people laugh simply by being himself. He and his older brother, Pushkar, shared the habit of addressing their parents with an unnecessarily formal “Mother” and “Father.” When asked a question, Rushir’s familiar response was often “I don’t know,” or “నాకు ఎందుకు తెలుస్తుంది?” - “Why would I know?” And when asked to dosomething, he rarely said he would not. Patrick Dennis Sullivan, 65, of Cary, North Carolina passed away September 27, 2026 at Central Regional Hospital Butner, North Carolina. He was born on May 15, 1961 in Lindenhurst, New York to William “Bud” and Lorraine (Flynn) Sullivan.

Pat was the life of every party, a born jokester who never passed up the chance to make someone laugh. Behind the humor was a man with a generous heart, who would give the shirt off his back to a friend or family member without a second thought.

Pat was never happier than when he was on the water. For years, he, Laura, Danny, and Katie spent every weekend on their wakeboard boat on Jordan Lake with friends. Those were some of the best days of his life. At home, he could be seen on the front lawn playing frisbee with his chocolate lab, Abby, whom he affectionately called "big and chocolate." More than anything, Pat loved his wife, his four children, and his five grandchildren.

Patrick is survived by his wife Laura, his four children, Sean, Patrick, Danny and Katie, and his grandchildren, James, Tillie, Madelyn, Blakely and Cole.

He was preceded in death by his father William “Bud” Sullivan and his mother Lorraine Sullivan.

The family will receive friends at Gathering Park Place, 2240 Gathering Park Circle, Cary, NC 27519 on October 18, 2026 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm. A celebration of life will be at 5:00 pm

James (“Jim”) Edward Tynen, 75 years old, passed away on September 30, 2026 in Cary, NC, surrounded by family after a long illness with prostate cancer and radiation cystitis.

He was born on May 14, 1951 in Evanston, Illinois to James Edward Tinen and Yvonne Joan Fancher Tinen. Jim was the oldest of five. He was exceptionally intelligent and excelled in school. He played the saxophone in junior high and high school band, earned outstanding grades, and even aced the LSAT. But becoming a lawyer was never really his dream.

He graduated from Northwestern University with two degrees: Philosophy in 1973 and a Master of Arts in Journalism in 1976. At first, he did freelance writing and temp work at Citi Bank in New York City. He later went on to a long career in communications, serving as the advisor of the student newspaper at the University of Pittsburgh, copy editor at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, and an editorial page editor for The Daily Herald in Utah. During his time in the Raleigh area, Jim served as the Communications Director for the Civitas Institute, a public policy nonprofit and think tank.

Following his retirement, he and his wife Marnie stayed in Cary, North Carolina, where he spent his later years continuing to write essays on theology, philosophy and society for independent journals like Salvo Magazine, Touchstone and The Paradox.

Peter Joseph Bucki, 88, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2026.

Peter was born on March 20, 1938, in Buffalo, New York, to Stephen and Bernice (Januszewski) Bucki.

Peter enjoyed a long career with IBM, from which he retired. He was a devoted husband and father whose life was centered around his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Veronica (Grover) Bucki. Together, Peter and Veronica built a life and family that remained deeply important to him throughout his years.

He is survived by his children, Deanna Moretz, Denise Lyons (Kevin), Chris Bucki, and Susan McFarland (Jeff), who will remember him with love and gratitude and carry forward the many memories they shared together. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Alyssa and Alex Moretz, Sam and Ben Bucki, Joe Lyons and Ryan McFarland.

Peter lived a long and meaningful life, and his passing leaves a profound absence in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His family will remember his presence, the years they shared, and the lasting place he holds in their hearts.

Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, North Carolina, at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions LifeCare, in recognition of the compassionate hospice care and support they provide to individuals and families.

Peter will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Bradford Alan Grum—Brad—was born June 19, 1967, in Charlotte, NC and lived there for the first 12 years of his life. At that time, he moved with his mother and sister to Apex, NC where he attended middle and high school, graduating in 1986 from Apex High School. It is during his time at Apex High that he developed some of his lifelong friendships. He later studied Horticulture in a 2-year program through the Agriculture Institute at NCSU. Brad worked for many years in plant propagation and landscape management through his business Mill Creek Farms. More than anything, Brad loved fishing for bass and sharing good times on his boat out on the water with friends and family.

Brad is pre-deceased by his parents, John Grum and Helen Cole and is survived by his siblings Wanda Steele (Marvin) and son Chris; Scott Ferguson (Sharon) and daughter Sarah and sons Garrett (Alyssa) and Mitchell (Madelyn); and Jennifer Seiger (Larry) and daughters Ainsley and Avery. Also surviving are his stepchildren—Christopher Mitchell, Payton Mendenhall, and Emily Smith (Kyle).

There will be a memorial service on October 24, 2026, at the Cypress Shelter at Harris Lake Park. Folks are welcome to arrive anytime after noon for some lunch and fellowship, and the more formal service will begin at 1 pm.

Dr. Victor Hollowell ("Dr. Vic"), age 104 and a half, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026. Victor was born in Elizabeth City, NC, to Eugene and Cora Hollowell. He had two older siblings, Annabelle and Graham, and a younger sister, Helen, all of whom he loved fiercely. Victor was very smart, an excellent student who graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina and then from Harvard Medical School, attending the latter on the GI bill. His medical training was interrupted by a two year stint in the Navy. While working in Boston at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital as part of his medical training, a beautiful red headed nurse caught his eye. That nurse, Catherine ("Kitty"), was soon his wife.
Victor and Catherine moved to Charlotte, NC, where Victor established a successful practice as a general surgeon. Although Victor was raised as a Baptist, Catherine was not so they compromised by joining a small Moravian church in Charlotte, charmingly called The Little Church on the Lane. They raised their children in that church and enjoyed many a Christmas Lovefeast there. Upon retirement, Victor returned with Catherine to his beloved eastern North Carolina, purchasing a home on the Pasquotank River in the community of Shiloh, just outside Elizabeth City. Benjamin L. Rainey, our big-hearted, quick-witted, protective father, passed away on September 18, 2026, due to complications from pneumonia. He was born on September 19, 1938, in Hot Springs, NC, to Benjamin W. and Pauline H. Rainey.

He grew up in Greensboro, NC, graduating from Greensboro High School and Guilford College, where he met the love of his life, Fern Laudenslager. Ben and Fern were married for 59 years until her passing in 2020. After college, Ben joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, started working for J.P. Stevens, and began raising his family of three children. In 1970, Ben joined IBM as a programmer and moved the family to Cary, NC. He worked in IBM's store systems division for 28 years, retiring in 1998 and then working as a contractor until 2002.

He was an avid bowler and participated in numerous U.S. national and regional bowling tournaments around the country. He and Fern would hook up their camper and travel across the country every summer to visit family and friends, go sightseeing, and attend bowling and NASCAR events.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Abernethy (Mac); sons, David Rainey (Becky) and Chip Rainey; sister-in-law, Kristen Parsons (Richard); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Wake Memorial Park Mausoleum, Cary, NC.

Alfred Carmichael Strauss of Cary, North Carolina passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at age 93 surrounded by family. Alfred, born October 13, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, leaves a legacy of warmth, service, and an enduring love for the game of golf. Alfred was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Strauss, to whom he was happily married for nearly 67 years. A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina (Class of 1954), he went on to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956. Following his military service, he attended the University of Michigan School of Law graduating in 1959. Upon graduation, Alfred began a distinguished 37-year career with Lehigh Portland Cement Company in Allentown, Pennsylvania, starting in the Legal Department and rising to serve as Executive Vice President of Marketing before retiring in 1996.

An avid golfer, Alfred was happiest on the course. Golf was more than a hobby for him. It was where he found joy, camaraderie, and peace. He carried the lessons of the game -- patience, integrity, and appreciation for the journey -- into every aspect of his life. Known for his kind heart, easy smile, and fierce intelligence, he was deeply respected by everyone who crossed his path.

He is survived by his children, Patricia Burns (Joseph Ros), Alfred Michael, and Christopher (John Davis), his sister, Anne Tofield, five nieces and nephews, and four cherished grandchildren.

Robert “Bob” Richard Starbuck, age 77, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, in Cary, North Carolina.

Bob was known for his investment in academia, service-oriented actions, generous nature, and sense of humor. He lived his life with a daily sense of purpose, happy and driven to help the communities he lived in.

Born in Cincinnati, OH, Bob was the son of Charles and Shirley Starbuck. He worked in his father’s furniture store in Hillsboro, OH, and attended Miami University of Ohio upon graduating from high school. He continued his passion for mathematics by attending North Carolina State University on a National Defense Education Act (NDEA) fellowship, earning his PhD in Statistics. Bob remained involved in in academia, mentoring students and sitting on NC State’s College of Sciences board. He was awarded the Fellow designation rank and the Founders Award from the American Statistical Association and the Distinguished Alumnus Award and Zenith Medal for Service from NC State for his years of enhancing partnerships between academia and business, industry, and government.

Bob dedicated much of his free time to handyman work. He volunteered regularly for Habitat for Humanity while living in Pennsylvania, CORRAL in Cary, and the churches he was a member of over the years.
