Recovery after bariatric surgery doesn’t always mean weeks in bed.

With laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques, many procedures can be performed through a few small incisions, which often allows for a smoother recovery and less downtime.

For procedures like gallbladder or hernia surgery, some patients may even go home the same day.

The first few days are typically the most uncomfortable, but movement is an important part of the recovery process. Getting up, walking, and gradually returning to normal daily activities can help you move forward safely.

Many patients are able to return to basic activities within a few days and, depending on their job and procedure, may return to work within one to two weeks.

Every recovery is different. Your surgeon will guide you on when it’s safe to return to heavier lifting, exercise, and more strenuous activity.
