Did you know that American Indian/Alaska Native infants experience a higher rate of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) than any other racial group in the United States?
By sharing safe sleep practices with parents, grandparents, babysitters, and anyone caring for a baby, we can help reduce these preventable tragedies.

Some important reminders:
🧸 Always place baby on their back to sleep
🛏️ Use a firm, flat sleep surface with no blankets, pillows, toys, or bumpers.
👶 Keep baby in your room, but on their own safe sleep surface.
🤱 Breastfeeding and a smoke-free environment can also help lower the risk.

It takes a community to keep our little ones safe. Please take a moment to read through these tips and share this post—you never know who may benefit from this information.

Leech Lake Car Seat Community Schedule – August

We will be offering car seat distribution and car seat checks to help keep children in our community safe while traveling.
*CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT*

Locations & Dates:
• Ball Club Community Center – August 4th
• Inger Community Center - August 12th
• Onigum Community Center - August 18th
• Sugar Point Community Center – August 27th (10 AM - 2 PM)

Time: 11 AM - 1 PM

Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome!

📣 Free Early Childhood Screening at Cass Lake-Bena Elementary!

Families with children ages 3–5 are invited to schedule a free, complete early childhood screening on August 3 or August 4.

Each screening takes approximately 1.5 hours and includes a review of your child’s health history and immunizations, vision and hearing checks, developmental screening, height and weight measurements, and social-emotional screening. Results will be reviewed with you when the screening is complete.

Early childhood screening helps families better understand their child’s growth and development and is required by Minnesota law before a child enters kindergarten.

📅 August 3: 2:00–6:00 p.m.
📅 August 4: 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
