At Healing Trails Equine Assisted Therapy, we believe healing happens through connection, safety, and presence. Horses have a unique ability to sense and respond to human emotions and nervous system states, making them powerful partners in trauma recovery and emotional healing.
Using principles of Polyvagal Theory, our equine-assisted sessions help individuals regulate their nervous systems, rebuild trust, and reconnect with themselves and others. Trauma often leaves the body in states of anxiety, hypervigilance, shutdown, or emotional disconnection. Horses naturally respond to these states with honesty and sensitivity, offering immediate, nonjudgmental feedback that supports awareness and healing.
Through grounding experiences such as grooming, leading, mindful interaction, and relational connection with the horses, clients can begin to experience co-regulation — the calming and stabilizing effect of feeling safe in relationships. The horse’s steady presence, rhythmic movement, and intuitive nature help activate the body’s natural capacity for calm, emotional balance, and resilience.
At Healing Trails, we create a compassionate environment where individuals of all ages can experience healing beyond words. Whether recovering from trauma, anxiety, grief, stress, or emotional challenges, our programs support nervous system regulation, confidence-building, emotional growth, and authentic connection through the transformative partnership between humans and horses.
Healing begins when we feel safe enough to connect — and horses have a remarkable way of leading us there.
