Did you see our last post? We had some wonderful dancing and singing during our Friday Happy Hour with live music from Josh Icban. But we had to showcase this particular moment of our resident singing along to the music.

It’s difficult to overstate how valuable music in community really is. Not only does it get our bodies moving and our minds working, but it re-establishes connection. Connection to art. Connection to each other. Connection to our bodies. Connection to the past. Connection to our own memories. Connection to joy. We are so thrilled when we capture moments that really show this experience — and if you have not seen our last post with our community singing and dancing together, please take a look! Community is quite the buzz word these days, but for us it’s always been the main event. You know what impacts seniors the most? Connection. When we think of growing older what we want is happiness, health, and safety. But the reality is that happiness encourages health which prolongs safety. The bedrock of achieving happiness, health, and safety is human connection. There’s the evidence and also our intuition — humans just aren’t meant to be alone. And if this doesn’t show us why, then I don’t know what can! 🤩☺️🥰

We are always looking for inventive ways to make exercise a bit more fun. Recently we added these colorful pompoms as a new motivating tool to encourage our Memory Care residents to keep moving, shaking, and participating throughout the session. This adds a playful element while promoting movement, coordination, and engagement ✨💪🤩

Our community was flooded with color last week while our assisted living and memory care residents made these beautiful coffee filter tie-dye masterpieces 🎨🌈✨

Art-making is a valuable practice at every age, but with seniors it is even more so. It can be an outlet for emotional expression, strengthen neural connections, and foster a sense of accomplishment. Communal art has the added benefit of combatting isolation and encouraging curiosity. All our residents are different, so all our artists are different — what a fun craft to come together and try something new ✨🎨💛

We were lucky enough to be visited by 3Crosses Church recently, and they shared some beautiful flute music with us. This talented flutist looked like a million bucks 👔 and played like it too 🎶✨

Something you might not know about Carefield Castro Valley is our Silver Fox Club — our community’s Men’s Club. This is a special program designed for our male residents to socialize together and enjoy activities within and outside our community every month. This month our Silver Foxes headed to the Hayward Street Party with Fred (our Memory Care Director) and Bill (our Culinary Director) to bask in the festivities and try some delicious food. They even got to hang out with the Hayward Police Department 🌟😎🎉
