🎃👻 SPOOKY SPEECH THERAPY FUN! 🕷️🦇🧙‍♀️

Who knew scraps of paper could turn into something so SPOOKTACULAR?! ✂️🧡🖤

This week at UTLEY Speech Therapy, we got creative with leftover paper scraps to make our very own Halloween garlands! Each child made one, and of course, I had to make one too! 😍

🕷️ Spiders, 🧙‍♀️ witches, 🦇 bats, 💚 Frankenstein, 💀 skulls, and more!

The best part? We practiced speech and language skills while cutting, creating, describing, requesting, and having a little Halloween fun! 🎃

Proof that speech therapy doesn’t always have to look like therapy! Sometimes all you need is a little imagination and some scrap paper! ❤️

🚨 “BUT THEY MET THEIR SPEECH GOALS… SO WHY AREN’T THEY DONE WITH SPEECH THERAPY?” 🤔💬

This is a GREAT question — and one I hear from parents all the time! ❤️

Meeting a goal in the speech therapy room does not always mean a child is ready to graduate from speech therapy. 🎓🗣️

Here’s why 👇

In therapy, we work in a STRUCTURED environment. Your child may be able to use their speech or language skills beautifully when they’re sitting with me, focused, and getting reminders or cues. 👏

But what happens OUTSIDE the speech room? 🌎

🍔 Can they order their own meal at a restaurant?
🏫 Can they use the skill with their teacher?
🧒 Are they able to say their sounds correctly while talking with friends?
🍽️ What about during conversation with family members?
🛍️ Are they able to communicate clearly with someone they don’t know?
💬 Do they remember to use their skill during everyday conversation WITHOUT being reminded?

That’s called GENERALIZATION or CARRYOVER — and it’s a HUGE part of speech therapy! ⭐️

Our ultimate goal isn’t just for your child to “pass” a goal during therapy. We want those skills to become part of their everyday communication. 🙌🗣️❤️

🎓 So when is a child ready to graduate from speech?

When their skills are not only mastered in therapy, but are functional, consistent, and carrying over into the environments where they actually need them. 💬🌎
