Radical Acceptance 💙

Sometimes we spend so much time wishing things had happened differently.

We replay it, think about what we should’ve said, or wish someone had made a different choice. But no matter how many times we go over it, we can’t change what already happened.

Radical acceptance doesn’t mean what happened was okay. It just means accepting that it happened.

We can still be hurt. We can still wish it were different. We just don’t have to keep fighting with a reality we can’t change.

Sometimes accepting where we are is what finally helps us move forward. 💙

________________________________________________________

Hello! My name is Chelsee Houze, and I am a Resident in Counseling and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families across a variety of clinical settings, with experience supporting individuals impacted by trauma, foster care involvement, substance use, co‑occurring mental health concerns, behavioral health challenges, and major life transitions. I am especially passionate about helping clients understand how trauma, attachment disruptions, adverse childhood experiences, and generational patterns influence their emotional and relational wellbeing.I strive to create a warm, collaborative, and practical therapeutic environment where clients feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow.

I utilize a range of evidence‑based modalities, as no single approach fits every client. My work incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Trust‑Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). I am also working toward becoming trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to further support clients processing trauma. My approach blends empathy, psychoeducation, and gentle, honest feedback to help clients identify barriers and build meaningful, sustainable change.

Outside of counseling, I enjoy reading, baking, and spending time with my chickens.

I provide services both in person and via telehealth and am currently under the supervision of Wayne Powell, LPC at Mindful Healing.

Distress Tolerance 💙

Distress tolerance is our ability to get through really difficult emotions without reacting in ways that might make things worse.

When emotions are high, it can be hard to think clearly. Sometimes we need to calm our body down before we can figure out what to do next.

One DBT skill that can help is TIP. Something as simple as putting cold water on our face, doing a short burst of exercise, or slowing down our breathing can help bring the intensity of the emotion down.

The goal isn’t to get rid of the feeling. It’s to get through the hardest part of it without making the situation harder. 💙

Interpersonal Effectiveness 💚

Healthy relationships begin with healthy communication.

Interpersonal Effectiveness teaches us that we don’t have to choose between respecting ourselves and caring for others. We can speak honestly, set boundaries with kindness, and ask for what we need without guilt.

Healing is about building relationships where honesty, respect, and compassion exist together, including the relationship you have with yourself.

Your voice matters. Your needs matter. And healthy boundaries are an act of self-respect. 💚

Happy Saturday. ☀️

I hope you find a few moments today that make you smile.

Maybe it’s your morning coffee, a quiet walk, time with family and friends, or just a chance to slow down for a bit.

Life doesn’t always give us perfect days, but it often gives us small, good moments if we notice them.

Hope you have a good one. 💙

Emotion Regulation 💚

Our emotions are not the problem. They are messages, not mistakes. Every feeling has something to tell us, but we don’t have to let every emotion make our decisions.

Emotion Regulation is about learning how to understand what we’re feeling instead of being overwhelmed by it. It reminds us that emotions are temporary, and while we can’t always control what we feel, we can choose how we respond.

When we pause instead of reacting, we create space. In that space, we can ask ourselves what we need, what’s true, and what will help us move forward rather than keep us stuck.

Healing isn’t about never feeling anxious, angry, sad, or afraid. It’s about building the skills to sit with those emotions, care for yourself through them, and respond in ways that align with the person you want to be. Your emotions deserve to be acknowledged, but they don’t have to be in control.

💚 Feel your emotions. Understand them. Regulate them. Then choose your next step with intention.

The Wise Mind 💙

You can’t find your future in the past, but you can learn from the past to create a better one. The things we’ve been through can teach us, but they don’t have to keep us stuck.

The Wise Mind is the middle ground between our emotions and our logic. It reminds us that we don’t have to choose one or the other. We can feel our emotions, think things through, and make decisions that reflect both our heart and our mind.

Healing isn’t about forgetting the past. It’s about learning from it, finding balance, and moving forward with intention. Your past is part of your story, but it doesn’t get to write your future.

The Quiet Gift of Being Understood 💙

Connection is less like finding someone who has walked your exact path, and more like sitting beside someone who isn’t afraid of the weather you’re walking through.

Understanding doesn’t always arrive with perfect words. Sometimes it looks like a quiet presence, a gentle question, or the relief of not having to explain every part of your pain.

We are changed by the spaces where we feel safe enough to be fully seen. In those moments, the weight we carry is no longer ours alone.

May you find people who make room for your whole story, and may you become that kind of space for someone else. 🌿
