There’s no “right” way to feel after sexual violence — and there’s no shame in still carrying complicated emotions, even years later.

In her new post, Keri shares the things society too often leaves unsaid about sexual violence: why it goes unreported, why the body’s response is never consent, and why healing looks different for everyone.

If you or someone you love is a survivor, you are not alone.

Thinking about starting therapy but not sure what to expect? You’re not alone in that.
A lot of people wait until they’re in crisis to reach out — but therapy can be valuable at any point. Whether you’re struggling significantly or simply want to understand yourself better, that willingness to show up is the foundation of real progress.
Here’s what we want you to know:
• The relationship between you and your therapist matters more than any specific technique.
• Not every therapist will be the right fit — and that’s okay. Trust your instincts.
• The process isn’t linear. There will be breakthroughs and setbacks. Both are part of the work.
• The insights and skills you build in therapy become tools you carry long after sessions end.
We wrote a guide to help you understand the therapeutic process — from finding the right fit to understanding different modalities like CBT, EMDR, somatic therapy, and more.

When I think about trauma, I’m not just thinking about what happened in the past.
I’m thinking about how it’s still showing up right now — in your relationships, your reactions, your body, the way you protect yourself emotionally.
That’s why my approach isn’t just talk therapy. I combine relational, attachment-based work with somatic tools that help you actually feel and process what’s been stored in your nervous system. Because trauma isn’t just cognitive. It lives in the body.
I’m direct. I’m honest. And I meet you exactly where you are — not where I think you should be.
Whether you’re working through something individually, navigating a relationship, or exploring intimacy and connection — this is the space.

Meet Kayley — the friendly voice on the phone and the face that greets you when you walk through our doors. 💛

Kayley is our office manager here at Mending Minds, and if you’ve called, texted, or stopped by our office, chances are she’s the one who made you feel welcome before you ever sat down in a session.

Before joining our team, Kayley spent five years working in residential treatment facilities, where she developed a deep understanding of what it means to truly support people during some of the hardest seasons of their lives. She’s also a licensed massage therapist — so she gets the mind-body connection on a level that goes beyond the front desk.

Here’s what she wants you to know: the scheduling, paperwork, and financial side of therapy should never feel like another source of stress. Her goal is to make every part of the process — from your very first phone call to finding an appointment time that actually works — feel smooth, simple, and human.
She also takes the office snack selection very seriously. The sweet-to-salty ratio is carefully curated. 🍪

When she’s not keeping our office running, you’ll find her with her husband and two girls — camping in the summer, doing puzzles by the fireplace in the winter, and always hunting for the best blueberry muffin in town.

We’re so glad she’s part of our team. If you have any questions about scheduling, insurance, or just need a friendly hello — Kayley’s door is always open.

I grew up in an unpredictable home. Abuse was the only consistent thing I knew. By 17, I was in foster care — and everything I’d ever known was gone overnight.
Healing wasn’t straightforward. It was lonely, confusing, and full of moments where I had to learn how to trust people while still learning how to trust myself.
But it was also powerful. And it’s the reason I do what I do today.
I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to need someone safe, consistent, and honest. Someone who will sit with you in the hard stuff without judgment — and remind you that you’re not broken because of what happened to you.
If something in my story resonates with you, I’d love to talk. You don’t have to have everything figured out to reach out.

Meet Dennie.
Some of the most tender seasons of life don’t come with a roadmap — a faith that’s shifting, a belief system being re-examined, a major life transition that leaves you asking who you are now.

These moments deserve a therapist who can hold them without judgment, without an agenda, and without trying to rush you toward anyone else’s answers.
That’s exactly what Dennie does.

Dennie is an intern therapist at Mending Minds who specializes in supporting individuals through religious experiences, faith transitions, and spiritual exploration. Her approach is warm and humanistic — she leads with compassion and an unwavering belief that you are the expert on your own life. She integrates somatic experiencing to help release what’s stored in the body, and she’s certified in sand tray therapy for clients who process more naturally through creative expression. When she’s not in session, you’ll find her outside in the sunshine, hiking, traveling, watching football, reading, and loving on her kids and grandkids.

If you’ve been searching for a safe space to explore faith, spirituality, or a life that’s in transition — we’d love to connect you with Dennie.
