We are excited to welcome Alex Cooper, LMSW, to the Reflections team!

Alex is passionate about creating a warm, affirming, and judgment-free space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves. Using a person-centered approach, Alex believes healing begins by meeting clients where they are and building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, compassion, and authenticity.

Alex understands that therapy looks different for everyone. Whether you feel most comfortable talking, drawing, crafting, using fidgets, or simply taking things one step at a time, Alex is committed to creating a space where you feel supported and accepted.

As someone who is neurodivergent, part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and living with a chronic invisible illness, Alex brings both personal understanding and professional compassion to their work.

Please join us in giving Alex a warm welcome! We are excited to have Alex on the Reflections team and look forward to the positive impact they will make in our community.

Happy Pride! 🌈

As we celebrate Pride, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who continues to show up as their authentic selves and support others in doing the same.

Pride is more than a celebration—it's a reminder of the importance of belonging, acceptance, and mental well-being. When people feel safe to be who they are, they are better able to thrive, connect, and care for their mental health.

Thank you to those who share their stories, offer support, advocate for inclusive spaces, and help create communities where LGBTQ+ individuals feel seen, valued, and understood. Your compassion and courage make a difference.

Thank you for celebrating Pride with us, and remember, Pride is Everyday🌈

🌈 Expanding Our Understanding, One Conversation at a Time 🌈

Today, we remember Stonewall, as today marks the 57th anniversary.

What was Stonewall?

👉In the early hours of June 28, 1969, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City's Greenwich Village neighborhood. Police raids on LGBTQ+ establishments were common at the time, as discrimination and criminalization of same-sex relationships were widespread.

👉Unlike many previous raids, patrons and community members resisted. What began as a confrontation outside the bar grew into several days of protests and demonstrations, drawing attention to the treatment of LGBTQ+ people in the United States.

Who are ?
"Stonewall Community Foundation strengthens the LGBTQ+ community and Movement by making strategic, values-driven investments in dynamic organizations, projects, and leaders. As a public foundation, we do that in close partnership with the people impacted by our mission, our diverse and global supporter base, and the many individuals pushing forward the front lines of progress.

We raise money and fund hundreds of nonprofits every year in over 30 issue areas that advance q***r liberation, including racial, social, and economic justice. We also administer a variety of donor funds and house six unique scholarship programs, including the largest in the country created to support LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers.

Our grantmaking, which began during the height of the AIDS crisis, is complemented by capacity building initiatives that equip changemakers with the tools needed to maximize their impact. That includes free consulting, coaching, and monthly workshops.

In all we do—from seed funding to planned giving—our priority is to make the greatest difference possible." -Stonewall Community Foundation

If you are able, please consider supporting this incredible organization. Check out https://www.stonewallfoundation.org/work for more information!

Thank you, Stonewall Community Foundation, for all the work you do! ❤️

🌈 Expanding Our Understanding, One Conversation at a Time 🌈

You may hear terms that are unfamiliar to you; and that's okay. Being curious, respectful, and open to learning can help create safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.
At Reflections, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported for who they are.

Today's Term: GENDER IDENTITY
What does the term gender identity mean? "One’s internal, deeply held
sense of gender. Some people identify completely with
the gender they were assigned at birth (usually male
or female), while others may identify or female), while
others may identify with only a part of that gender, or
not at all. Some people identify with another gender
entirely. Unlike gender expression, gender identity is
not visible to others. " -It Gets Better LGBTQ Glossary

Today's Term: Q***R
What does the word q***r mean? "An umbrella term describing sexual orientations and gender identities that go beyond heterosexual/straight and cisgender. Any LGBTQIA+ person may identify as q***r. The term "q***r" was historically a slur used against the LGBTQIA+ community. Younger generations chose to reclaim the word as a term of pride, while older generations may be averse to identifying as q***r. The term can be considered hateful when used by those who do not identify as LGBTQIA+." -University of California San Francisco LGBTQ Resource Center
