I kind of have a loss for words right now. You see August 30 was my Momma’s birthday. She would have been 86 and this month she has been gone a year. I think about her every single day. But tonight a beautiful momma squeezed both of my hands as she delivered her gorgeous baby girl on my momma’s birthday. I’m driving home after being witness to the most amazing miracle and seeing this family in so much happiness and loving each other.. while I think I am feeling every emotion possible right now I just can’t imagine a more perfect end to Mom’s day. Life sure is full circle and somewhat phenomenal!

One thing I always encourage my birth clients to think about: What makes you feel safe, calm, and at home? 🤍

Birth can happen in a very unfamiliar environment—bright lights, hospital sounds, new faces coming in and out. Bringing a little piece of home with you can make such a difference.

Maybe it’s a favorite stuffed animal you’ve had forever. 🧸
A blanket that brings you comfort.
A photo of someone you love.
A picture of your kids waiting to meet their new sibling.
Or even a photo of the furry family member waiting for you at home. 🐾

These things might seem small, but during labor, comfort matters. Familiar items can help make the room feel a little less clinical and a little more like your space.

I love seeing what my families choose to bring with them. Sometimes there’s a whole story behind that stuffed animal or photograph—and those little pieces of their story often end up becoming part of the birth photos, too. 🌙

So when you’re packing that hospital bag, don’t just think about what you need.

Bring something that makes you feel comforted, grounded, loved, and connected to home. 🤍

Sometimes birth asks you to dig a little deeper. 🤍

I had the privilege of supporting this sweet mama through prenatal visits, her birth at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, and postpartum—all while documenting her story through my camera.

There were long hours, some scary moments when baby’s heart rate began having decelerations, and then suddenly…everything moved FAST.

At 10:18 a.m., she was 7 cm.
By 10:30, she was pushing.
At 11:16, her beautiful 7 lb. 9 oz. baby boy was here. 💙

He needed a little extra support and spent a few days in the Special Care Nursery, but today he is healthy and HOME. 🥹

This is why I love being both a doula and birth photographer—the support doesn't begin or end with the birth.
