Does your chest feel tight or tense when anxious stress kicks in? Try this simple 60-second tapping practice.

Using your fingertips, gently tap along the center of your chest over the Ren (Conception Vessel) meridian for about 60 seconds as a calming self-care practice.

Try it while you're relatively calm too, so the technique feels familiar when anxious stress shows up.

If you only practice calming tools when your anxious stress is already 9 out of 10, they can feel much harder to use.

Instead, practice while you’re calm so the routine is already familiar when things get harder.

Try this 60-second daily practice:

20 sec: Slow down and notice your breathing.
20 sec: Practice one physical tool or simple acupressure practice.
20 sec: Notice what changes—your breathing, shoulders, jaw, or how settled you feel.

You’re not practicing because you’re overwhelmed. You’re practicing so the technique isn’t new when you actually need it.

The worst time to decide how you’re going to calm down is when you’re already overwhelmed.

Build your 5-minute calm-down plan ahead of time:

1. Choose a quiet place
2. Know your warning signs
3. Pick your breathing practice
4. Choose one physical or acupressure practice
5. Decide who you can reach out to
6. Know your next step if 5 minutes isn’t enough

The point is simple: when anxious stress starts building, you don’t have to make six new decisions. You already made them. Now you can follow your plan.

When anxious stress suddenly spikes, don’t try to solve everything at once. Make your world smaller for the next 60 seconds.

👀 Name 3 things you can see.
🌬️ Slow your breathing with a comfortable, unhurried exhale.
🦶 Put both feet on the floor and notice the pressure beneath them.
📱 Then reduce the input—put down your phone and step away from unnecessary noise.

You don’t need to figure everything out in that moment. Give yourself one simple next step you can actually do.

Have you ever felt anxious and suddenly started monitoring every sensation in your body?

Your breathing feels different. Your shoulders tighten. You notice your heartbeat or your stomach—and then you start checking those sensations even more.

Your thoughts, physical sensations, and attention can start feeding into each other. One useful question to ask is: What did I feel first, and what did I start checking afterward?

In my Emotional Wellness Guidebook, I break down 6 different ways anxious stress can show up so you can start recognizing your own patterns.

When anxious stress feels intense and your thoughts won’t slow down, the 3-3-3 grounding technique gives your attention something else to focus on.

Try this:

👀 SEE: Identify 3 things you can see.
👂 HEAR: Listen for 3 different sounds.
🚶 MOVE: Make 3 intentional body movements.

Jimmy also shares his second version of the 3-3-3 technique for people who find that sitting somewhere quiet makes their thoughts race even more.

The idea isn’t to magically eliminate anxious thoughts. It’s to redirect your attention toward your senses and what’s happening around you.

Ever wonder why something you handled fine yesterday feels completely overwhelming today? The situation might not be bigger—your “stress margin” might be smaller.

Poor sleep, too much caffeine, skipped meals, constant notifications, no movement, screen time, overcommitting, avoidance, and no time to decompress can quietly eat into that margin.

So when you suddenly feel at your limit, ask yourself: “How much margin did I have left?”

When anxious stress feels overwhelming, try the 3-3-3 grounding technique to bring your attention back to what’s happening around you.

3 things you can SEE 👀
3 things you can HEAR 👂
3 movements you can DO 🙌

Find a peaceful place, slow down, and intentionally work through all three. It’s a simple grounding exercise you can use when your thoughts feel difficult to settle.

When an anxious thought shows up, arguing with it for 10 minutes can keep you stuck in the loop.

Try this instead: NOTICE → LABEL → MOVE. Catch the thought, label it as an anxious thought, then choose a physical action—walk, stretch, or try a simple acupressure practice.

The goal isn’t to force the thought away. It’s to stop turning every anxious thought into a debate and choose what you do next.

If you’re trying to understand what triggers your anxious stress, don’t just track what happened.

Track these 3 things: the trigger, your response, and your baseline. Your sleep, meals, caffeine, and existing pressure can add important context—and when you compare several anxious moments, patterns can become easier to spot.
