ADHD is often misunderstood. What looks like laziness may be something else entirely.
October is ADHD Awareness Month, making it a good time to look beyond the common misconceptions.
A child struggling to focus, finish a long assignment or follow through on a task may be labeled βlazyβ or βunmotivated.β But for a child with ADHD, these challenges can stem from real difficulties with attention, organization and executive functioning.
And ADHD isn't simply about how much a child can focus. Kids with ADHD may spend hours focused on activities that are especially engaging or stimulating, while struggling with tasks that require sustained attention.
Understanding the difference matters. β€οΈ
