How Our Team Keeps Learning - So You Keep Seeing Clearly

At our practice, we believe great eye care never stands still. The world of optometry is constantly evolving with new technology, new treatments, and better ways to care for our patients. That’s why continuing education is such an important part of what we do.

Recently, Dr. Lou had the opportunity to take six of our staff members to The Exchange - Vision Source’s annual meeting and educational event held this year in Nashville, Tennessee. The event welcomed nearly 4,000 doctors, staff members, and vendor partners as Vision Source celebrated 35 years of supporting independent optometry practices across the country.

For our team, attending The Exchange was about much more than traveling to Nashville. It was an opportunity to grow professionally, strengthen our teamwork, and bring back valuable knowledge that directly benefits our patients every day.

Throughout the event, our team participated in continuing education courses covering advancements in eye health, patient care, practice technology, and communication. These sessions allowed us to learn from industry leaders and stay current on the latest developments in optometry.

Of course, learning was only part of the experience. Nashville provided plenty of opportunities for our team to connect, laugh, and create memories together outside the classroom. Building stronger relationships as a team helps us work even better together back at the office -and that creates a more positive experience for every patient who walks through our doors.

We are grateful to Dr. Lou for investing in our team and making opportunities like this possible. Continuing education allows us to continue growing as professionals so we can provide the highest level of care for our community.
When you visit our office, you can feel confident knowing your care team is committed to lifelong learning, staying current with industry advancements, and continually improving the way we serve you.

Because when our team keeps learning - you keep seeing clearly.

Progressive Lenses Explained (Without the Jargon)

Progressive lenses are one of the most common, and most misunderstood vision solutions we recommend. Read our newest blog, where we break down Progressives in plain language, the same way we'd explain them across the optical table.👇

Dealing with blurry vision can be frustrating at best and even a little scary when it interrupts your daily life. While sudden blurry vision can be a sign of a stroke, brain tumor, or detached retina, which require urgent medical attention, most often, this fuzziness stems from common “refractive errors.” Refractive errors is simply the medical term for when the shape of your eye bends light incorrectly. However, fluctuating clarity can also be a sign of dry eye, digital eye strain, or developing conditions like cataracts. Understanding why your eyesight has changed is vital for protecting your long-term eye health and getting your focus back on track.

Contacts vs Glasses: What Most Patients Don't Realize.
Written by Dr. Peyton Allen.

As an optometrist, one of the most common questions I’m asked is whether glasses or contact lenses provide better vision. While both are excellent options for correcting refractive error, there are important differences between them, particularly in how they work and why prescriptions are often not the same.

In many cases, vision can actually be slightly sharper in glasses than in contact lenses. This is largely due to the stability of the optics. Glasses sit at a fixed distance from the eye and remain relatively stable throughout the day, providing consistent visual correction. Contact lenses, on the other hand, rest directly on the surface of the eye and can rotate, shift slightly with each blink, or become dry over time. Even small movements can subtly affect visual clarity, especially in patients with astigmatism.

Another often asked question is why the numbers on a contact lens prescription differ from a patient’s glasses prescription. Glasses sit approximately 12 to 14 millimeters away from the eye, while contact lenses sit directly on the cornea. Because of this difference in position, known as vertex distance, the effective power of the lens changes, particularly in higher prescriptions. As a result, contact lens prescriptions often need to be adjusted from the glasses prescription to provide accurate and comfortable vision.

Additionally, contact lenses are manufactured in specific parameter ranges, meaning we sometimes select the closest available option rather than an exact optical match. This ensures the lens fits properly and maintains eye health, even if the power differs slightly from a glasses prescription.

Ultimately, both glasses and contact lenses are safe and effective when properly prescribed and monitored. The best option depends on your visual needs, lifestyle, and ocular health. During your exam, we carefully assess these factors to ensure you receive the most appropriate correction—helping you achieve clear, comfortable vision in whichever form works best for you.
