When clients seek spiritually integrated psychotherapy, what are they seeking exactly? According to this article, people seem to respond best to openness to exploring the spiritual dimensions of problems and solutions. Intuitus Group clinicians read and discussed this article in our team meeting this week. Our conclusions highlighted the importance of asking how clients wish to see spirituality or religion integrated in their therapy process and resisting the impulse to offer solutions too quickly (e.g. hope, as identified in the article).

"Shame and dissociation combine to provide a paradoxical and powerful self-protective form of self-regulation via a dis-enlivened existence that enables people with DID to live with otherwise potentially dysregulating affects and relationships."
Our June article study focused this on Shame as Affect Regulation in Dissociative Identity Disorder, by Hohfler. Published in journal associated with , it provided a particularly deep and unique angle on how we can be aware of and help clients navigate current and past functions that shame may (have) operated in their lives.

"My take on the book God Attachment" by Jody Schmit with the Intuitus Group:

This book does such a beautiful job weaving together psychology and theology. It helped me see even more clearly how our early relational experiences shape the way we show up with God—how we trust, how we seek closeness, and how we respond when we feel distant. Clinton and Straub offer a research‑based, accessible framework that makes attachment concepts feel both practical and deeply spiritual.

As a clinician, I found it incredibly valuable. As a person of faith, I found it grounding. It’s a strong resource for anyone—therapists, ministry leaders, or anyone longing for emotional and spiritual integration.

If you’re curious about attachment science or how these patterns show up in clinical work, this book is a great doorway into that exploration.

This past week at Intuitus, we read about clericalism and discussed how we have seen this issue crop up in church circles. We explored the dynamics that can lead to this pattern happening within the church. Read about it here:

Abstract Pope Francis has frequently spoken about the scourge of clericalism and its damaging effects on life in the Church. Clerical priests are those priests who demonstrate the following characteristics: aloof, unaccountable, entitled, arrogant, and authoritarian. The United States Conference of....

Check out our new blog post about the unseen grief of divorce by Leah Chen! In her blog, she discusses the personal impact of divorce and the difficulty people on the outside may have interacting with those going through it.

Do you know of someone who is going through a divorce? Perhaps a coworker, a parent from your child’s school, or a couple you know at church. Divorce can naturally provoke a variety of responses: “I had no idea, that’s too bad, I’m not surprised, she’s the problem, it’s his fault, etc......

This month, our group read and discussed about how people with emotional dependency traits tend to partner with those who have narcissistic traits. These traits tend to hook people into the relationship. These relationships can have great implications for one's mental health and marital health. Check out the article here.

Emotional dependency consists of an extreme affective need that manifests pathologically, such that it has been established that the partners of emotionally dependent individuals exhibit narcissistic traits. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional dependency, the narcis...

Many people assume that EMDR must be the one model that champions above all others. But when Jennifer Madere at Intuitus Group set out to compare EMDR with a more somatically rooted, neuroanatomy‑based approach like DBR, the differences she uncovered were striking. After digging deeply into both models and evaluating them side‑by‑side in clinical practice, she found contrasts that reshape how we think about trauma processing.

Her breakdown of EMDR vs. DBR might surprise you. Click the link to discover the breakdown: https://intuitus-group.com/dbr-%26-emdr
