One year ago today, Texas faced one of the most devastating flood disasters in our state’s history. Hundreds of responders from across Texas answered the call, standing shoulder to shoulder with local agencies to support search and rescue operations, medical care, reunification efforts, logistics, and the long recovery that followed.

Today, we pause to thank every responder, healthcare professional, dispatcher, volunteer, and support staff member who served during this response. Your professionalism, compassion, and commitment made a difference during an incredibly difficult time.

As we reflect on this anniversary, we also remember those whose lives were lost and keep the families of the three individuals who remain missing in our thoughts. They are not forgotten.

Anniversaries like this can bring back difficult memories. If you were part of the response and find yourself struggling, please remember that you do not have to carry that burden alone. Reach out to your peer support team, your department, or someone you trust.

Additional confidential peer support resources are available through the Texas Division of Emergency Management at https://tdem.texas.gov/peersupport.

Thank you to everyone who answered the call then, and to those who continue to serve today.

The Texas Statewide Peer Support Network, administered by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), was established to ensure that every Texas first responder has access to confidential peer support and behavioral health resources when they need them most.

We Are Blood will re-open all donor centers at noon on Tuesday with plenty of available appointments and a critical need for blood donations, especially from our O type and platelet donors. After two days of center closures and blood drive cancellations, hundreds of needed donations have been lost. Can you help our community recover? Book an appointment this week as we return to regular hours of operation and receive a free small ThunderCloud Subs for helping out.
