Community Health Free Clinic

Community Health Free Clinic CHFC provides free medical, dental, vision and prescription services for those without access to or the ability to pay for healthcare in East Central Iowa.

The mission of Community Health Free Clinic (CHFC) is to alleviate human pain and suffering through access to and delivery of compassionate healthcare. Medical care is provided to CHFC patients by a combination of volunteer and paid healthcare providers. Patient care includes diagnosis and treatment of acute issues, such as respiratory infections, sore throats, mild dermatology conditions and inju

ries, such as sprains and strains. Additionally, CHFC will provide limited support for the management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma. Dental care is provided to clinic patients by volunteer dentists. Patients seen in the CHFC dental clinic are provided comprehensive care, including fillings, cleanings and additional services to ensure patients are disease free. CHFC partners with local dentists who are able to immediately see patients with emergent needs such as a root canal or extraction. The eye clinic sees patients on an appointment basis to provide diagnostic exams and treatment for individuals dealing with eye disease and poor vision. CHFC has two prescription programs that provide short and long-term medications to patients free of charge.

Community Health Free Clinic donor Steve Allsop says he and his wife, Mary Beth, were raised in Cedar Rapids with solid Midwestern values. He says those values contributed to the success of his digital billboard platform, Mediaquest. Those values also prompt him to give back to the community that helped shape him.

“Cedar Rapids has meant a great deal to our family over the years,” said Steve. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the people, organizations, and efforts that help strengthen our community for future generations.”

One of the organizations supported by the Allsop Family is the Community Health Free Clinic. Most recently, Steve and Mary Beth gave the Clinic a generous unrestricted gift, as well as a gift toward digital billboards with the Mediaquest Outdoor Advertising Network.

“The nonprofit community, by its very nature, has often lacked the financial resources needed to effectively communicate the value of its programs and services,” said Steve.

“My business partner, Bill Lehman, and I built a digital billboard platform that allows us to connect with much of the greater Cedar Rapids population every day,” he continued.

“It seems only natural that a portion of this platform should be used to support nonprofit organizations and the broader community.”

Why do Steve and Mary Beth support the Community Health Free Clinic, in particular?

“Fundamentally everything in life starts with good health,” said Steve. “If you’re ill or feeling bad, it’s a struggle to be joyful and productive. An investment in the Community Health Free Clinic is a natural choice.”
