When a bright spot began appearing in her son's eye in photos, one young mother felt there might be more going on than just the lighting. And it led to a diagnosis they might have otherwise missed.

It's a reminder that even subtle changes in the eye's appearance warrant a closer look and an eye exam.

Read the full story below from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and more about Know The Glow—a nonprofit organization the family founded to raise awareness—in the link in the comments.

What started as one mother's response to a near-miss diagnosis has become an international movement to raise awareness of blinding childhood eye diseases.

Ever wonder what 20/20 vision really means? 👀

It's a measure of visual sharpness. If you have 20/20 vision, you can see at 20 feet what the average person sees at 20 feet. That's considered normal vision.

👁️ Someone with 20/15 vision has sharper-than-average eyesight. They can see at 20 feet what a person with 20/20 vision would need to be 15 feet away to see.

👁️ Someone with 20/30 vision sees at 20 feet what a person with 20/20 vision can see from 30 feet away. That means their vision is a bit less sharp and may benefit from correction.

Curious about your numbers? We're here to help you see clearly. 👓

Seeing halos or glare around lights? It can happen from time to time, but when it becomes more noticeable, it may point to changes in your vision.

In our latest blog post, Dr. Muller explains what can cause halos, when they're harmless, and when they may be a sign of something more, like cataracts.

If it's happening more often or becoming harder to ignore, it may be time for an eye exam.
