Please don't laugh, or get mad...

but my hand surgeon has changed the date of the first of two procedures on my wrist. Instead of June 12th, it will now be July 1st. Good news for the short term but it will mean being out until possibly mid September. My apologies for things being so unpredictable and somewhat up in the air. I promise to keep you all closely apprised of final outcomes. For now, surgery is set for July 1. Again, thank you all so much for your patience and perseverance.

Time for another minor procedure...

As many of you already know, over the past year I've been diagnosed with and suffering from De Quervain Syndrome. This is a very specific condition (not unusual for someone in my profession) that affects the tendon of the thumb. There is a protective sheath that covers the tendon of the thumb and when the tendon becomes inflammed due to overuse or injury, it cannot move within the sheath freely causing sharp, debilitating pain. I have already received a couple of treatments for the condition but find myself needing to have it surgically treated. The good news is that the surgery will result in a "fix" for the condition. I will be pain free after things heal.

The down side, of course, is that I will have to give the wrist adequate time to fully heal before commencing with massage again - since massage requires a great deal of stress on the hands and wrist. I plan to have both wrists treated to be done with the problem once and for all. It will mean a slightly longer healing time since they have to wait for a couple of weeks after doing one wrist before doing the other.

Time off for each wrist will be 6 weeks. The first surgery is scheduled for June 12. The second surgery will be scheduled for early July. That would mean returning to the office will probably be sometime early to mid August - exact date to the determined.

You have my most profound apology for needing to take more time off of work. But this procedure will ensure my ability to continue working for years to come. I thank you in advance for your continued patience with all of these medical alerts.

If you have an appointment already scheduled for a date that falls within the above outlined healing window (June 12 thru mid August), I will be cancelling it soon. Please take note of this situation so the cancellation doesn't catch you by surprise.

We have utility work!!!

If you live in Cedarburg, you are probably already aware of water utility work happening on the southern end of Washington Avenue just north of Pioneer Road. Healing Hands has received a letter from Cedarburg Light and Water Utility informing us of the upcoming work to be done directly in front of and around our building.

How this may affect you is (and I quote Mr. Timothy Martin, Water Utility Superintendent) "all customers....will receive a new water service from the watermain up to and including a new shut-off valve at the property line. Eash installation will require a localized water outage."

We have talked with Mr Martin who is doing his best to minimize the duration of our expected water outage. He was unable to tell me when we can expect water to be shut off to our building. We will receive a 24 hour notice. Unfortunately, that means if you happen to have an appointment on the day of the outage, I will have to give you very last minute notice that the office will be closed for a day or part of a day.

We are so sorry for this inconvenience but have no control over this situation. Hopefully it will occur on a day when we're already closed (Monday or the weekend). But we will keep you appraised as we gain knowledge.
