Another important collaborative contribution from our group.

This international multicenter analysis from the CAMUS Collaborative evaluated more than 130,000 major urologic oncologic procedures across 180 centers in 33 countries, providing the largest standardized assessment of perioperative complications in urologic oncology to date.

The study establishes contemporary benchmarks for radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, while highlighting the importance of standardized complication reporting and international quality improvement initiatives.

Large-scale collaborations like this are essential to improve patient counseling, benchmark outcomes, identify opportunities for quality improvement, and ultimately enhance surgical care worldwide.

Proud to have contributed to this remarkable global effort.

Our new paper by: Dr. Yu Ozawa

This paper discusses active surveillance criteria for biopsy Gleason 3+4 by evaluating pathological findings at prostatectomy.

Although this is a surgical cohort, rate of adverse pathology (Gleason >= 4+3 or pT3b-4) is 31 %. It seems high.

Can we really trust MRI to rule out seminal vesicle invasion?

Our recent study challenges that assumption and more importantly, shows what to do about it.
What we found MRI has very high specificity (99%) but poor sensitivity (~17%) for SVI 83% of SVI cases are missed on imaging

Key predictors go beyond MRI:
Basal tumor involvement on biopsy
Higher PSA and % positive cores
Grade Group ≥3
MRI indirect signs (ECE, lesion
location) Why it matters clinically
A negative MRI does NOT exclude SVI. Relying on imaging alone risks understaging and suboptimal surgical planning

The big picture This is a shift from imaging-based decisions to integrated risk assessment.

The future isn’t MRI vs. clinical data-it’s the combination of:

Imaging
Biopsy mapping
Clinical variables
(Soon) genomics and PSMA PET

Bottom line:

If you’re planning surgery or radiation based on MRI alone... you’re probably missing the full story.

Thank you, Dr. Ozawa, for your continued hard work and for sharing this article.

MRI’ sensitivity of detecting Seminal vesicle invasion is < 60% (specificity 95%). Even when MRI is negative, indirect information (tumor location on MRI, systematic biopsy findings etc) helps up assess risk of seminal vesicle invasion.

Congratulations, Dr. Ozawa, on this incredible accomplishment and the publication of your article!

New score makes evaluating genetic risk (GPS, Oncotype) as simple as checking PSA and Gleason score. Thank you for your help with this.
