We talk a lot about being abandoned by other people. But what about the ways we learn to abandon ourselves?

Sometimes it looks like ignoring a boundary to keep the peace. Sometimes it’s explaining away something that hurt. Sometimes it’s criticizing the anxious, angry, scared, or needy parts of ourselves instead of getting curious about what they’re trying to tell us.

And sometimes choosing yourself doesn’t mean leaving at all. It means learning how to stay connected to yourself while you figure out what you actually need.

Our newest blog explores self abandonment through relationships, trauma, boundaries, and parts work.

Therapy isn’t just about what happens in the room. Sometimes, the room itself matters.

Having a separate space to process the hard stuff can create privacy, fewer distractions, and something we don’t always think about: a little separation between therapy and the rest of your life.

Our newest blog explores why in person therapy can offer something different, especially when doing deeper emotional or trauma work.

A little Friday reminder 💛
One we've needed to remind ourselves here at Elliant Counseling Services lately!

You are allowed to have a good weekend even if…
Your week wasn’t productive.
You didn’t get everything done.
You’re still figuring some things out.

Ask yourself. Is your to do list is very much still "to-doing"? Can "rest" be one of those tasks?

Not everything needs to be resolved before you let yourself enjoy your life.
Go do something that makes you feel like you again.
Rest doesn't need to be justified!

Heads up! You don't have to earn your rest!

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that slowing down meant we were lazy, unproductive, or "falling behind." But our nervous systems weren't designed to live in constant survival mode.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do isn't push harder.

It's taking a deep breath. It's saying no. It's letting yourself be still without feeling guilty!

Healing often doesn't happen in the hustle. It happens in the moments when your mind and body finally realize they're safe enough to soften.

As we head into a busy season, ask yourself: What would it look like to treat yourself with the same compassion you so freely give everyone else?

At Elliant Counseling Services, we're here to help you build a life that feels less like surviving and more like living.

Sometimes healing doesn't look like feeling better!

Sometimes it looks like...

- Saying "no" without overexplaining.
- Taking a break before you're completely burned out.
- Realizing you're triggered instead of believing every thought.
- Letting someone help you.
- Crying instead of shutting down.
- Choosing peace over proving your point.
- Resting without "earning" it first.

Healing is often quiet. It's less about becoming someone new and more about returning to who you were before survival became your full-time job.

Which one are you working on right now?

Fill in the blank!!!

The smallest thing that helps me feel a little more like myself is ____________.

Maybe it's your morning coffee.
Maybe it's sitting outside for five minutes.
Maybe it's blasting music in the car.
Maybe it's petting your dog.
Maybe it's taking three deep breaths before opening your inbox.

Healing isn't always found in the big breakthroughs.

Sometimes it's in the tiny moments that remind your nervous system:
"I'm okay right now."

Have you ever met someone who was kind, consistent, and emotionally available and somehow your first thought was:

"Hmm... what's wrong with them?"

If you've been in an abusive or emotionally manipulative relationship, you're not "bad at dating."

Your nervous system may have simply learned that love feels unpredictable.

When you've spent months or years walking on eggshells, overthinking every text, or waiting for the next argument, calm can actually feel... uncomfortable.

Sometimes we mistake anxiety for chemistry.

Sometimes we think we're missing "the spark," when what we're really missing is the emotional roller coaster our brain became used to.

Here's the good news:

Your nervous system can learn something new.

Safe love may feel unfamiliar at first, but unfamiliar doesn't mean wrong. Healing often means teaching your brain and body that consistency, respect, and emotional safety are not boring... they're the foundation of healthy connection 🤍

Our newest blog explores why safe love can feel unsafe after an abusive relationship and how healing can change what feels familiar.

AI can answer questions. A therapist can help change your life.

AI is an incredible tool. It can help you journal, organize your thoughts, and even learn new coping skills.

But healing isn't just about getting the "right" answer.

Real therapy is about being seen, understood, challenged, and supported by another human being. It's about having someone notice what isn't being said, sit with you through the hard moments, celebrate your growth, and help you rewrite patterns that may have been years in the making.

Research consistently shows that the relationship between a therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of meaningful change. That's something no algorithm can replicate.

At Elliant Counseling Services, we embrace innovation, but we also know that healing happens in connection.

Technology can support the journey.

Human relationships help transform it.

Read our newest blog to learn why AI can be a helpful resource, but it will never replace the power of real therapy.

Healing isn't always obvious.

Sometimes healing looks like setting a boundary.

Sometimes it looks like crying in your car after holding it together all day.

Sometimes it looks like going to therapy even when you don't know what to talk about.

Sometimes it looks like catching yourself in an old pattern and choosing something different.

We often expect growth to feel dramatic or life changing. More often, it happens in small moments of awareness that slowly add up over time. But the fact that you're noticing your reactions, questioning old beliefs, or becoming more curious about yourself is growth!

Healing doesn't always feel like progress when you're in it.

But that doesn't mean progress isn't happening.

Ever feel like you know what you need to do in therapy, but your nervous system just isn't ready to go there yet?

That's where neurofeedback can help.

Neurofeedback doesn't replace therapy. It helps create the internal capacity to benefit from therapy by training the brain toward greater regulation, flexibility, and resilience. As the brain becomes less stuck in survival patterns, many people find it easier to stay present, process emotions, access coping skills, and engage in deeper therapeutic work.

At Elliant Counseling Services and our sister company AllNeuro Pathways, we often describe neurofeedback as helping to widen your "window of tolerance" so that healing feels more accessible and less overwhelming. When the brain feels safer, growth becomes possible.
