A patient came to me after having a fusion by another surgeon only 5 months prior. She had pain any time she stood up. She was told she needed to give it time. No other surgeon would take a look until she was 12 months out. When she saw me I ordered a CT scan which revealed that her rod was eroding into the inferior facet on her right side. Obviously this wouldn’t improve with time. We removed the poorly placed screws, place percutaneous robotic screws and she could stand without pain day 1. I always tell my team that we can never bury our head in the sand - if patients have odd complaints they need to be taken seriously. This patient was grateful she didn’t have to wait one more day than necessary to feel better!
