Centennial Mayor Sweetland visited our community again today and enjoyed lunch with several of our residents. We so appreciate her spending time with us today and getting to know more about our community and residents.

"In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row..."

The red poppy has become a national and global symbol of remembrance and on Memorial Day it is shared and worn to remind us of our fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The quote is from the poem "In Flanders Field" written in 1915 by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. who served on the front lines of World War II. It references the red poppies he saw bloom amongst rubble and bloodshed across battlefields in Belgium. The poem was published and its popularity aided the red poppy in becoming a symbol of remembrance across many nations.
