Payton Lorrainne Ackerson, 16, went to her heavenly home after an ebike accident surrounded by her family and her boyfriend Hudson and his family. She succumed to her injuries in the early morning hours of September 6, 2026 at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Even though she may be gone physically, her memory will always be with us. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks with Father Stan Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, September 11th from 5-7 p.m. at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery near Clarks.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Grand Island Humane Society in Payton’s name, or to consider adopting a pet from there. Payton was born at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska on April 26, 2010. She was a sophomore at High Plains Community Schools in Polk, Nebraska where she made an impact on everyone through friendships and athletics.

Beverly J. Crandell, 98, of Central City, died on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Central City Cemetery with Pastor Doug McHargue officiating.


Beverly was born January 29, 1928, in Fullerton, Nebraska, to Mark L. and Buena M. (Jackson) Crandell. She grew up in Fullerton and Columbus, before moving with her family to Central City in 1936. Beverly graduated from Central City High School in 1947 and continued her education at Nebraska Central College, where she earned an associate degree in 1952. Following her schooling, Beverly remained in Central City. She later moved to Cottonwood Estates in Central City, until 2014 when she moved to Litzenberg Memorial Long Term Care.

Beverly was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and was a 75-year member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her nephew, Joel Dasher, and his son, Devon; niece, Amy Christensen, and her daughters, Ella, Lily, Julia, and Sophie.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Donovan Crandell; and her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Darwin Dasher.

Ruth Ann Sandell, 86, of Polk, died on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Midwest Covenant Homes in Stromsburg. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at High Prairie Community Church in Polk with Pastor Justin Smith officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Lindale Cemetery near Hordville.

Ruth was born on December 15, 1939 to Julius and Alice (Gaibler) Eberhard in Aurora. She attended grade school at Hampton, then Aurora Country School, and in 1958, she graduated high school from Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD. After graduation, she went to cosmetology school and worked as a beautician in Aurora. On September 20, 1959 she was united in marriage to Neal Sandell in Hampton. To this union were four children Kevin, Michel, Lynne’ and Cary. Ruth and Neal have lived in the Polk area since their union, the last 51 years at their family farm in rural Hamilton County. Ruth raised her children and helped Neal on the farm and in the fields.

Edwin J. Maslonka, 81, of Grand Island passed away at his home in Grand Island on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Fullerton with Deacon Don Placke officiating. The family requests everyone to dress in casual attire.

Ed was born August 17, 1945 to Joe and Monica Maslonka. Ed was the youngest of the family, having two older sisters, Lucille and Mary. Ed attended and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1963. Following graduation Ed went on to college at Nettleton Technical Institute where he graduated in 1967 with a degree in drafting.

Ed began his career in 1968 working for an architectural firm in Columbus. He then started working for the City of Grand Island as a planning technician in the Regional Planning Department. Ed loved his time there and retired after 49 years.

On August 31, 2002, he was united in marriage to Terri Lynn Noble at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton.

Ed loved boating and fishing. He loved farming when he could on the family farm. Ed had a love for tractors, restoring them was his favorite hobby. Ruth M. Gillan, 90, of Central City, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Accura Healthcare in Fullerton. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Francis Kinyua officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

Ruth was born on October 14, 1935 in Central City to Leo and Deva (Lindgreen) Ellison. She grew up in the Central City area and graduated for Central City in 1953. Ruth then attended colleges at Kearney State and Central Community College in Hastings and Grand Island. She was united into marriage to James D. Gillan in 1954 in Central City. The couple started on the farm then moved to North Hollywood, CA. In 1958, they moved back to the farm and raised their kids. In 1981, she moved back to California. She was a teacher at a 1 room schoolhouse, District 51 and over the years, she worked for Bank of America, Security Pacific, Cross Road Motors.

Richard L. "Dick" Sealey, 76, of Lincoln, formerly of Polk, died on Saturday, August 15th, 2026 in Lincoln after a courageous long fought battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Polk Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be at Sportsman's Bar in Polk following the graveside service.

Dick was born on August 22, 1949 to Richard "June" and Joyce (Cramer) Sealey in Stromsburg. He grew up in Polk, graduated from Polk High School in 1967. Following his graduation, he attended Kearney State College and received his Bachelor's Degree. On December 31, 1969, Dick was united in marriage to Barb Majer in Ravenna. To this union were two beautiful daughters, Mindi and Jenna. Dick worked for the Lincoln Parks and Recreation for a few years until moving back to Polk to farm with his dad on the family farm and begin a family. Dick was also a seed corn dealer for Golden Harvest Seed Co and continued to farm until 2004. He then started driving semi truck, and eventually started "Sealey Trucking Company". He ran his trucking company until 2017 when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and retired. Dick remained in Polk living on the family farmstead until January of 2026, when he moved in with his daughter, Jenna in Lincoln.

Joann J. Dubas, 87, of Clarks, passed away on August 13, 2026 at her home, 3 days shy of her 88th birthday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clarks. Joann Joyce Janulewicz was born on August 16, 1938 at home near Loup City to Anton and Barbara (Spotanski) Janulewicz. She attended rural schools until the 8th grade and graduated from Loup City High School in 1955. She then attended Kearney Teacher’s College for 8 weeks to obtain her Teacher’s Certificate to teach in rural schools. She taught one year at Sherman County.
She met Eldon Dubas on a blind date in 1955 and they were married August 25, 1956. To this union were 7 children; Richard, Timothy, Edward, Diane, Nancy, Sandra, and Robert. She taught in a rural school in Merrick County for one year, she then stayed home to raise her family. She was a stay at home mom who was always busy helping out with chores on the farm, tending to her garden, canning, freezing, and butchering chickens. Susan E. Ausbun, 79, of Silver Creek, Nebraska, died on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Genoa Community Hospital. The family will hold a dedication of life for Sue at a later date.

Sue was born on November 9, 1946 in Hastings Nebraska, to Richard and Hilda (Hinrichs) Burke. She grew up in Central City Nebraska and attended Central City Schools. She was united in marriage to Paul Ausbun, and to this union was one son, Toby. She then moved to New York and Minnesota for several years. Sue moved back to Central City Nebraska, on the day of “The Night of the Twisters” in 1980. Sue then met Darrell Hellbusch and moved north of Fullerton. While in Fullerton she worked at Bonnavilla, and bartended at several different places. She remained in Fullerton for 29 years until Darrell’s death. She then retired and moved to Silver Creek, Nebraska, where she remained until her passing.
She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City Nebraska when she was younger. When she had downtime, she loved to crochet and draw. She had the most beautiful handwriting as well.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Pati (Deryl) Hilligas of Hampton and brother, Ric (Cyndee) Burke of Eagan, MN. Also, three nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Toby Ausbun; and brother, Butch Burke and niece, Angela.
