Drowning is a leading cause of injury‑related deaths in children, and it often happens quickly and quietly. Young kids are most at risk in home pools and hot tubs, while teens are more likely to drown in
oceans, lakes, and rivers.

To help prevent drowning:

Have an adult watch children around any water.

Use fences, alarms, and covers for home water safety.

Make sure kids take swim lessons — and know how to swim yourself.

Learn CPR.

Use life jackets on boats.

Avoid alcohol and drugs near water.

Keep tubs and buckets out of reach.

Teach kids and teens never to swim alone.

Enjoy the outdoors while staying safe from pesky insects! During summer outdoor play, using insect repellent can help protect your child from bites and reduce the risk of insect‑borne illnesses. Be sure to avoid spraying repellent near your child’s eyes, mouth, and hands, especially if they frequently touch their face. Repellent should not be used on infants, and all product instructions should be followed carefully.

Did you know that kids may feel scared or worried when going to their healthcare appointment? They might fear separation from their parents, pain, or simply the unknown. You can help by talking with your child ahead of time about why they’re going, whether it’s a check‑up or a visit to diagnose an illness. Discussing their health concerns and reassuring them that caring for them is never a burden. It helps them feel comfortable, understood, and safe.

Did you know swaddling can help calm and relax your baby? It can provide comfort during crying or stressful moments, like doctor’s visits. To swaddle safely:
Spread out a thin blanket and fold one corner.

Lay your baby face‑up with their head above the fold.

Wrap the left corner across their body and tuck it behind their back.

Bring the bottom corner up over their feet and fold it at the chest.

Wrap the right corner around and tuck it securely.

Make sure the swaddle isn’t too tight so your baby can breathe and move their hips.

Once your baby begins rolling, swaddling should stop. Stay safe and enjoy these sweet moments!

Healthy Habits: Routine!

During the summer, it can be challenging to maintain consistent routines. However, routines play an important role in supporting your child’s
circadian rhythm and emotional regulation. Keeping a steady sleep schedule and regular meal times can help your child’s body systems function at their best. You may also notice improved mood and behavior when routines are in place.

Establishing predictable daily rhythms now can also make the transition back to school in the fall much easier. Summer is a wonderful opportunity
to let your child participate in choosing parts of their routine and building healthy habits that last.

Healthy Habits: Tick Safety 🌳🐛
Did you know there are hundreds of types of ticks around the world? Ticks attach to the skin of people and animals and can spread disease when they bite. They’re most active in warm months, especially summer, and kids often encounter them while playing outside or spending time in grassy or wooded areas. Untreated tick bites can lead to illnesses such as Lyme disease.

If you find a tick on your child:

Call your doctor, especially if it may have been attached for more than 24 hours.

Use tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull gently.

Wash the bite area with soap and water or alcohol.

Stay safe and have fun outside!
