Edwin D. “Eddie” Cook, Sr., a lifelong resident of Queen Anne’s County, passed away on August 26, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born in 1931, Eddie was the son of the late William Henry Cook, Sr. and Lillian Louise Covington Cook. He grew up on his family’s farm in Centreville, where his early years were shaped by family, hard work, and life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

As a young man, Eddie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later became a highly respected game warden. He loved his country deeply and remained proud of his service throughout his life.

Baseball was one of Eddie’s great loves. A phenomenal player in his younger years, he had a natural talent for the game and carried that love of baseball with him throughout his life. He also enjoyed sharing stories and memories from years gone by. Among the places he had the opportunity to visit, Barcelona, Spain, always remained a favorite.

Eddie is survived by his children, E.D. Cook, Jr. and Libby Cook Walls and her husband, Dallas; Lisa Cook, whom he considered a daughter; his grandchildren, Michael Cook and his wife, Jessica, Kristal Abrams and her husband, Matt, Dave Cook, Shannon Hampton and her husband, Sean, and Jaime Lewis and her husband, Aaron; and his great-grandchildren, Sydney Cook, Morgan Cook, Luke Abrams, Vada Abrams, Sawyer Abrams, Dallas Hampton, Case Hampton, and Ally Cook.

In Loving Memory of Gloria Dixon
August 8, 1955 – August 2, 2026

Gloria Dixon, 70, of Easton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026. Born on August 8, 1955, Gloria spent most of her life in Rising Sun, Maryland. She was a hardworking and dedicated woman, giving more than 25 years of service to Yale Sportswear before later working as a department manager at Walmart. On November 25, 1977, Gloria married the love of her life, Frank “Tommy” Dixon. They shared 44 years of marriage, building a life together filled with love, laughter, companionship, and countless memories. Tommy preceded her in death, but the love they shared remained forever in her heart.

Gloria enjoyed the simple things that made life special—gardening, cross-stitching, reading a good book, and spending weekends with Tommy searching the newspaper for yard sales and setting out together to find their next little treasure. More than anything, Gloria will be remembered for her beautiful smile, warm heart, and the love she gave so freely. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Tammy Matthews, who will forever carry her mother's love, strength, and memories in her heart.

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at a later date.

Rest easy, Mom. Your love will remain with us always. You were deeply loved, you will be deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten.

Bruce Wakefield, 79, of Easton, Maryland, passed away on August 22, 2026. He was born on September 19, 1946, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Elizabeth and Floyd Wakefield.

In 1966, Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Navy and moved from Michigan to Maryland to complete his military service at the Naval Academy. Afterwards, he settled in Annapolis, where he put his entrepreneurial spirit and mechanical talents to use by starting his own automotive repair business, “The Garage.” The shop’s slogan—“They couldn’t fix it at the Garage”—was characteristic of Bruce’s dry wit and ironic sense of humor. In truth, there was very little that he couldn’t fix.

It was during his time in Annapolis that Bruce met Lucinda Christhilf. They married in 1982 and were together for 38 years. They decided to start a family on the bucolic Eastern Shore of Maryland, where their daughter, Mariah, was born. The family enjoyed time together outdoors at their home in Queenstown, and on the water at their cottage on the Tangier Sound. Bruce would become involved in local politics in an effort to protect this peacefulness– he fought tirelessly against land development in Queen Anne’s County and was a popular political cartoonist for the Bay Times and the Record Observer.

Maria Del Carmen Juan of Easton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026 at the age of 83. Maria was born in 1943 in Santiago de Cuba, the daughter of Enrique and María de la Fé Caveda. She was the middle of three daughters: Rosa the eldest and Liliana the youngest.

In December 1962, she married the love of her life, Emilio Juan, and together they shared 64 wonderful years. Following the Cuban Revolution, Emilio and Maria emigrated to Spain in 1971 with their young daughter, and soon after settled in Connecticut where they would spend the next 30+ years.

Maria’s favorite things to do were spending time with her four grandchildren, traveling the world, and losing herself in a good book. Emilio and Maria spent many winters in Florida, where she got to spend her time soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean. She was known for her cooking – her grandkids’ favorite was her black beans and rice, which she made every Christmas Eve – and her love of watching soccer, especially Lionel Messi and the Spanish National Team, which left her torn when the two met in the 2026 World Cup Final.

Maria is survived by her husband Emilio Juan, her daughter Lissete Wharton (Timothy), and her four grandchildren: Caitlin, Caroline, William, and Maxwell. The family will hold a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter and Paul Church in Easton, Maryland.

Marjorie Chaney Lyons (Marge) passed away in the early morning of August 24,2026 at Heartfield’s Assisted Living in Easton,MD. It had been her home for eleven years.

She was born in Waco,Texas on October 25, 1925.Marjorie was the daughter of the late Professor J.G. Chaney and Grace Hatter Chaney. Later, Marge moved to Bryan, Texas and was there for most of her schooling. In her senior year, her family moved to Maine and later Massachusetts. She was very popular because they loved her Texas accent! Marjorie’s father became a professor at the Naval Academy. At that time, Marge went to the University of Maryland and majored in Home Economics. There she met the love of her life, LeRoy Lyons. They married on July 7, 1946 and settled in Easton, MD. They raised two daughters, Chris and Dianne.

Marjorie was an active volunteer with the Easton hospital auxiliary. She was often a room mother in her girl’s classrooms. Exercising was something Marjorie enjoyed doing. Early on, it was Jack LaLanne on tv and later it was aerobics and yoga at the Easton YMCA. Marjorie was a very stylish dresser and a good cook. She was also a good seamstress and decorator.

After the girls were older, Marjorie learned to play golf. She enjoyed playing with the woman’s golf group at the Talbot County Country Club.

Brooke Elizabeth Vandemark passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 19.

Brooke was born at Fort Carson, Colorado, on February 3, 2007, to Russell Vandemark and Mary Sadler. Throughout her life, she was raised in communities across the country, from Fort Carson, Colorado to Logan, Iowa; Severna Park, Maryland; and finally, Chestertown, Maryland.

Brooke completed her homeschool education in 2023 and went on to attend Chesapeake College and Towson University. She was a creative and artistic young woman whose many interests included photography, jewelry making, sewing, crocheting, and painting. In addition to her schooling and artistic pursuits, Brooke worked at several local businesses over the years, including Play It Again Sam’s, Finishing Touch, Walnut & Wool, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Waterman’s.

Brooke is survived by her parents, Russell Vandemark and Mary Sadler; her stepmother, Liddy Campbell; and her siblings, Charles and Rider Vandemark, and Carson and Cameron Brinegar. She is also survived by her grandparents, Joni Martin; Mark and Dee Vandemark; and Tyler and Debbie Campbell, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.

Brooke was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dinah Vandemark and Ed Sadler.

A Celebration of Life honoring Brooke will be held at Waterman’s in Rock Hall, Maryland, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Thomas Richard Schiller — known to family and friends simply as Tom — peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born February 14, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, Tom grew up in Stamford, Connecticut and over the years made homes in Port Angelis, Washington; Burlington, Massachusetts; Greenwich, Connecticut; Bethesda, Maryland; and Oxford, Maryland.

The son of the late Erich E. Schiller and Dorthea Jung Schiller and brother of the late Theodore Schiller, Tom lived a life marked by humility, quiet strength, and an unwavering sense of passion and purpose. Growing up by the water, he developed a deep affection for the sea and sailing.

Tom’s life of service began at the United States Coast Guard Academy (Class of 1958). He served ten years in the U.S. Coast Guard (1958–1968), rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and receiving honors including the National Defense Service Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal and the Expert Pistol Medal. He served as Lead Engineer Officer aboard the icebreaker, USCGC Eastwind, and fulfilled missions to both the Arctic and Antarctic.

After further study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1962–1964), Tom practiced naval architecture and marine engineering across private and public sectors — including Industrial Spain, Seatrain Lines Company, Strick Corporation, Cushing & Company, M. Charles Wayne Johnson, Jr., age 63, of Centreville, Maryland, previously of Glen Burnie, passed away on August 19th, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on September 15th, 1962. Beloved son to the late Charles Johnson, Sr. and Martha Grabowski. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Ann Spear Johnson; 3 beloved children: Ashleigh Johnson Gamble and her husband Bryan, CJ (Charles) Johnson, III. and his wife Courtney, Matthew Johnson, and his wife Joanna; and 3 cherished grandchildren: Tobin, Ellie, and Evalynn; his dear sister, Debbie Martin and her husband Steve; and his favorite cousin Kim Warden; numerous brothers in-law & sisters in-law, nieces, nephews and good friends. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: William Johnson & Evelyn Davis and Joseph Grabowski & Genevia Hager.

Charles and Ann met working at the YMCA and were later married in September 1984. He attended Glen Burnie High School and later enrolled in the United States Air Force where he was promoted to Sergeant. John Madison “Mady” Coleman, of Chestertown, Maryland, departed this life on August 18, 2026. He was born on August 17, 1960, to the late Ernest R. Coleman and Charlotte Elizabeth “Hersch” Coleman.
John was a devoted member of the Sargent Preston Ashley American Legion, Post 228 in Rock Hall, Maryland, and formerly served as a financial officer of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL).
John loved Maryland blue crabs and enjoyed eating them whenever he had the opportunity. He was also a devoted fan of the Baltimore Orioles and closely followed the team’s statistics and season performances.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his siblings Frank (Marsha) Coleman, Jerry (Joyce) Coleman, Debbie (John)Duphilly, Kevan (Bettsy) Coleman, Bonnie, and Jay (Dana)Squares, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his brothers Jamie Coleman and Gregory Coleman.
A graveside service will be held on August 26th, 2026, at 1:00PM, at St. Paul’s Cemetery, 7579 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
