Heading out for a run at Stone Bridge Loop?

Watch your step! Trail running is fantastic cardiovascular exercise, but the uneven terrain, hidden roots, and loose rocks make it a hotspot for severe lateral ankle sprains. A sudden twist can easily tear ligaments or cause a hidden avulsion fracture.

If you rolled your ankle on a run and the swelling hasn't gone down in 48 hours, you need an X-ray. And we have one right here in our office: https://tinyurl.com/yvyh9d38

If you have scrolled through fitness social media lately, you have probably seen the viral push for Barefoot Shoes. Advocates claim that zero-drop, ultra-thin footwear is the secret to natural movement, stronger arches, and better balance. But at Clifton Foot and Ankle Center, we are seeing a different side of this trend: a massive influx of patients limping into our office with severe foot and ankle injuries.

While the concept of walking "naturally" sounds appealing, the reality of transitioning to minimalist footwear is often a painful shock to the system. Here is why the barefoot shoe trend might be maximizing your pain, and what you should do instead: https://tinyurl.com/szxkkeu4

It's still UV awareness month, and there's still time to protect you feet from sun damage!

Our blog covers peak hours to avoid the rays, SPF suggestions, and reminders to.... NOT IGNORE YOUR FEET!

They get burned quite often, and folks tend to use sunscreen everywhere else.
Remember: your feet work hard, but they're thin skinned. Literally.

Check out our blog for a 2 minute explainer on the topic:

You kicked the coffee table, and now your toe is throbbing.
How do you know if it's broken...?
Check for:
1.) The toe pointing in a strange or unusual direction
2.) Pain that keeps you awake after 24 hours
3.) A nail that turns completely black
Spot any of these signs?

Wellness influencers are currently slathering their feet in thick petroleum jelly and sleeping in heavy, fuzzy socks to cure cracked heels.

From a podiatry standpoint, this is incredibly risky.

Fungus thrives in dark, damp, and warm environments. By trapping your feet in an occlusive ointment and heavy socks for eight hours, you are creating a microscopic greenhouse. If even a trace of fungus is present, it will spread rapidly to your toenails.

That sidewalk may look harmless...

But on a hot summer afternoon, pavement can reach temperatures hot enough to burn your feet in seconds.

Whether you're at the pool, the beach, or just walking the dog:
- Wear shoes outdoors.
- Check the ground before stepping out.
- Keep your feet hydrated with moisturizer after sun exposure.

A little prevention goes a long way. Contact us for any foot-related questions or concerns: https://cliftonfootandankle.com/

We've officially reached the point in summer where your sandals have become your everyday shoes.

But if your feet have started feeling sore, tired, or achy, your footwear could be part of the problem. Many sandals and flip-flops don't provide the support your feet need for long walks, vacations, festivals, and everyday errands.

A few simple tips can help:
- Choose supportive sandals whenever possible.
- Avoid walking barefoot on hot pavement.
- Keep dry, cracked heels moisturized.

If sandal season is taking a toll on your feet, come see us. We'll help you stay comfortable so you can enjoy the rest of your summer! https://cliftonfootandankle.com/
