Love is love - and when you love someone, you accept them for who they are, and believe in building a world where love and support come without conditions, because each person is inherently worthy.

Supporting someone living with a mental health or substance use challenge starts with understanding, empathy, and connection. Healing is more than the absence of symptoms. It is having a stable home, meaningful support, and the tools to move forward through whole-person care.

If you or someone you love needs support, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 anytime, anywhere in the U.S. You do not have to figure this out alone.

Language matters. Choosing supportive words can help people feel seen, heard, and respected. When we focus on the person — not the diagnosis — we create more compassionate conversations about mental health.

Mental health touches every one of us, either directly or through someone we love. Respectful communication is especially important during times of transition, including housing instability, recovery, or reentry into the community. Compassionate words can signal safety when people need it most.

When we understand that mental health challenges can be connected to addiction, we begin asking, “How can we help?” instead of judging. That simple shift can make a powerful difference.

Let’s commit to talking about mental health with the care, honesty, and dignity every person deserves.

Parents, caregivers, schools, healthcare providers, and communities all play an important role in supporting youth mental health. Changes in mood, sleep, appetite, or behavior may be signs that a young person needs support. Creating space for open conversations and taking time to listen can help children and teens feel safe sharing what they’re experiencing and encourage them to reach out early.

If someone you love is facing mental health or substance use challenges, support is available for the whole family. Learn more and find resources from SAMHSA: [https://www.samhsa.gov/find-support/helping-someone](https://www.samhsa.gov/find-support/helping-someone)
