June is Men’s Health Month

Mental health matters for men, too. Many men are taught to “push through,” stay silent, or avoid asking for help — but stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and burnout can affect anyone.

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Therapy can provide a safe space to manage stress, improve relationships, process emotions, and develop healthy coping skills.

This month, let’s continue breaking the stigma around men’s mental health and encourage honest conversations and support.

Elliott Counseling Group offers therapy and mental health services for adolescents and adults, including in-person and telehealth options.

As temperatures rise this summer ☀️, it’s important to know that some medications — including certain SSRIs and other psychiatric medications — may affect how the body regulates heat and hydration.

Some individuals taking these medications may be at increased risk for heat exhaustion, dehydration, dizziness, or overheating during hot weather. Staying hydrated, limiting prolonged heat exposure, and recognizing early warning signs can help keep you safe.

Always talk with your healthcare provider before making any medication changes, and don’t hesitate to ask questions about heat safety and side effects.

Elliott Counseling Group offers psychiatric medication management and mental health support services for children, teens, and adults.

School’s Out — But Parenting Stress Doesn’t Take a Summer Break

Summer can bring fun family memories, but it can also create added stress for parents and caregivers. Changes in routine, balancing childcare, managing work schedules, increased screen time, financial strain, and trying to “do it all” can quickly become overwhelming.

It’s important to remember that parenting burnout is real. Feeling exhausted, overstimulated, anxious, or emotionally drained does not make you a bad parent — it means you are human.

Taking care of your own mental health helps you better support your children. Setting boundaries, asking for help, taking breaks, and seeking professional support when needed are all healthy and important steps.

Elliott Counseling Group offers counseling and psychiatric services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families — with both in-person and telehealth options available.

💪 Embrace the Power of Resilient Mindset! 💫

Resilience isn't just about enduring tough times; it's about thriving despite them. It's using inner strength to navigate through challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

Resilience means using inner strength to work through and grow from challenges and crises. This is what allows a person to “bounce back” after anything from a minor rejection to a major life setback.

No one is born resilient—it's a learned skill. With practice, anyone can become resilient. More than anything, resilience comes from mindset. By controlling how you think about a situation, you can control how you respond to it.

Let's cultivate a resilient mindset together. Let's see challenges as opportunities for growth and setbacks as stepping stones to success. Together, we can overcome anything life throws our way! 💪🌟

June is Pride Month 🌈

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honor authenticity, and continue important conversations around acceptance, equality, and mental health. While Pride is joyful and empowering, many LGBTQ+ individuals still face unique stressors including discrimination, family rejection, anxiety, depression, trauma, and barriers to care.

Everyone deserves access to safe, supportive, and affirming healthcare where they feel respected and heard. Creating inclusive spaces and supportive communities can make a meaningful difference in emotional well-being and overall quality of life.

At Elliott Counseling Group, we are committed to providing compassionate, inclusive care for individuals of all identities and backgrounds. We offer counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Our nurse practitioners also provide services to support LGBTQ+ individuals through medication management, mental health treatment, and inclusive care that recognizes each person’s unique needs and experiences. We offer services both in-person and via telehealth appointments.

If you are looking for support, resources, or more information about services, call 217-398-9066 or email [email protected].

Children are like sponges, and as a parent, you are likely aware of how quickly they are absorbing the things you say and do, perhaps more than you were prepared for.
What may also be difficult to realize is how your way of being – your mood, your reactions, and your coping mechanisms- is all influencing how your child will begin to respond to emotional or mental challenges in life.

It may feel like you are spending every waking moment of every day attending to your child, and it is a wonderful thing to see parents who cast some of their own needs aside to do what is best for their child. But when parents put all of their needs aside, they may be doing more harm than good, particularly when it comes to their own mental health and emotional well-being. As a parent, sometimes the best way to help your child manage their mental health starts with managing your own. These three things can help your child develop a healthy understanding of mental health and foster a positive environment at home.

1. Be open about emotions and foster emotional intelligence.
2. Normalize therapy and mental health counseling.
3. Practice healthy coping strategies with your children

We encourage you to keep searching for practical things that you can do daily or weekly with your child and develop positive mental health together! If you are and you’d like to have support in this process, we have therapists at Elliott Counseling Group who are here to help.

As AI tools become more common, it’s easy to turn to technology for quick answers or coping ideas. While these tools can offer insights and support in the moment, they are not a substitute for the compassion, expertise, and personalized care that comes from working with a licensed therapist.

Mental health is deeply human. Healing happens through connection — being seen, heard, and supported by someone trained to guide you through life’s challenges.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or unsure where to turn, please reach out to a licensed mental health professional. You deserve real, meaningful support.

✨ If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 — the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7.

You are not alone. Help is here, and healing is possible.
