Hot flashes aren’t the only sign of perimenopause.

Perimenopause can begin earlier than many women expect, and symptoms can look different from woman to woman. You may notice changes in your body and how you feel before hot flashes ever become part of the picture.

Some common symptoms can include:
• Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
• Anxiety or mood changes
• Changes in sleep
• Irregular or changing menstrual cycles
• Heavier or lighter periods
• Night sweats or hot flashes
• Changes in energy or libido

These changes can be frustrating, especially when you’re not sure what’s causing them. But you don’t have to simply “push through” or assume they’re just a normal part of getting older.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, our providers are here to help you understand what’s happening, answer your questions, and discuss personalized options for managing your symptoms and supporting your health through perimenopause and beyond.

If you’re expecting, save this post for a quick reference to the soft and hard signs of labor!

As you get closer to meeting your baby, your body may begin showing signs that labor is approaching. Some signs can happen days or even weeks before active labor, while others may indicate that it’s time to contact your provider or head to the hospital.

Soft signs of labor may include:
▫️ Increased vaginal discharge or loss of the mucus plug
▫️ Increased pelvic pressure
▫️ Cramping or irregular contractions
▫️ A feeling that your baby has “dropped” lower into your pelvis

Hard signs of labor may include:
▫️ Regular contractions that become stronger, longer, and closer together
▫️ Your water breaking
▫️ Cervical changes as your body prepares for delivery

Every pregnancy and labor experience is different. If you’re unsure whether you’re in labor or notice something that concerns you, don’t hesitate to contact your OBGYN or maternity care team for guidance.

If you’re currently pregnant, your New Horizons Women’s Care provider is here to support you throughout your pregnancy and prepare you for delivery.

Call or text 480-895-9555 to schedule your next prenatal appointment.

Struggling with heavy periods? Endometrial ablation may be an option.

If heavy menstrual bleeding is affecting your daily life, an endometrial ablation may help. The procedure removes a thin layer of the uterine lining to reduce menstrual bleeding, often making periods much lighter or, for some women, stopping them altogether.

Endometrial ablation is not the right option for everyone, and pregnancy is not recommended after the procedure. If you are considering ablation, your provider will discuss your symptoms, health history, and future pregnancy plans to determine if it is appropriate for you.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, our providers offer personalized treatment options for heavy menstrual bleeding and are here to help you find the right approach for your health and lifestyle.

If heavy periods are interfering with your life, you don’t have to simply live with them. Call or text 480-895-9555 to schedule an appointment and discuss your treatment options.

August is National Breastfeeding Month!

Breastfeeding can be a beautiful part of the postpartum journey, but it can also come with challenges, including clogged milk ducts.

If you notice a tender, firm area of your breast, here are a few things that may help:

▫️ Continue breastfeeding or expressing milk regularly
▫️ Avoid overly aggressive massage, which can increase inflammation
▫️ Use a cold pack between feeds to help with swelling and discomfort
▫️ Rest and stay hydrated
▫️ Make sure your baby has a comfortable, effective latch
▫️ Avoid tight clothing or anything that puts pressure on the breast

If symptoms are getting worse, you develop a fever or flu-like symptoms, or the area becomes increasingly red, hot, or painful, contact your healthcare provider. These can be signs of mastitis and may require treatment.

Breastfeeding looks different for every mother, and asking for support is always okay. At New Horizons Women’s Care, we’re here to support you throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

Pelvic floor discomfort and incontinence don’t have to become your new normal after having a baby.

Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period can place significant stress on the pelvic floor, sometimes leading to symptoms such as:

• Pelvic pressure or discomfort
• Urinary leakage or urgency
• Pain with in*******se
• Difficulty controlling your bladder or bowels
• A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the pelvis

While these concerns are common, they are not something you simply have to live with. Pelvic floor symptoms can also occur at other stages of life, including during perimenopause and menopause.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, our providers can evaluate your symptoms and help identify the underlying cause so we can discuss treatment options that are right for you.

If something doesn’t feel right, speak up. Your pelvic health matters.

Hormone Testing & Bioidentical Hormone Therapy: What Women Should Know 🩷

Hormonal changes can affect how you feel, especially during perimenopause and menopause. Symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep changes, vaginal dryness, and mood changes can all be related to changing hormone levels.

Does every woman need hormone testing? The answer is not necessarily. Hormone levels naturally fluctuate, and your provider may be able to evaluate your symptoms and health history without testing. When testing is appropriate, your provider can help determine which tests may be useful.

For women experiencing bothersome symptoms, hormone therapy may be an option when medically appropriate. Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to hormones naturally produced by the body, and your provider can help determine whether this treatment is right for you.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, we take a personalized approach to hormone health and help you make informed decisions about your care. Call or text 480-895-9555 to schedule an appointment at any of our office locations!
