May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month.. but what is Lyme disease?

Lyme disease is a bacterial/parasitic infection that is primarily transmitted through tick bites. Lyme is called “The Great Imitator,” because its symptoms mimic many other diseases. It can affect any organ of the body, including the brain and nervous system, endocrine system, muscles and joints, and the heart.

Patients with Lyme disease are frequently misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune disease, and various psychiatric illnesses, including depression. Misdiagnosis may delay the correct diagnosis and treatment as the underlying infection progresses unchecked.

Co-infections from Lyme disease: viruses, parasites, yeast, mold and other bacterial infections are found in almost all patients diagnosed with Lyme. Proper diagnosis requires looking into all infections impacting the body that drain the immune system.

Chronic Lyme disease is one of the most debilitating conditions we see in our practice. Lyme can wreak havoc on the body, impacting every system and function and can be challenging to diagnose and treat.

Dr. Judy is a Lyme Literate Doctor, ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) certified. Dr. Judy and her team have successfully treated patients with Lyme disease for the past 19 years by developing individualized treatment plans that treat the patient as a whole. 💛
