Your core isn’t just there to help you get a six-pack. It’s there to help you control movement.

A lot of athletes train their core with exercises that only challenge one thing:

🔥 Burning the abs

But endurance sports require much more than that.

When you run, cycle, or swim, your core has to help you:

✅ Transfer force efficiently
✅ Control rotation
✅ Maintain posture when fatigued
✅ Keep your movements coordinated

The hanging knee tuck is a great way to challenge your core because you have to stabilize your entire body while moving your legs.

The key is control.

Don’t swing.
Don’t use momentum.
Don’t let your body rotate all over the place.

Focus on:
✔ Active shoulders
✔ Controlled movement
✔ Keeping your ribs and pelvis connected
✔ Smooth, efficient repetitions

Bonus: You’re also building grip strength...something that is important for overall strength and longevity.

👇 Give this exercise a try and let us know:

Do you feel it more in your core, hip flexors, or grip?

Save this exercise for your next strength session and share it with a training partner who needs to improve their core control.

Durable athletes aren’t created by luck. They’re built through consistent habits.

Over the past week, we broke down what it takes to become a more durable endurance athlete:

💪 Building strength
⚡ Developing power and explosiveness
🏃 Improving movement efficiency
📈 Progressing training appropriately
😴 Prioritizing recovery
🍽️ Fueling and hydrating properly
🧠 Staying consistent over time

The biggest mistake many athletes make is looking for the one thing that will instantly fix everything.

But durability doesn’t come from one workout, one exercise, or one recovery tool.

It comes from the small decisions you repeat week after week.

Just like investing, your training compounds over time.

Every quality workout.
Every recovery habit.
Every smart progression.

They all add up.

The goal isn’t just to train harder.

The goal is to build a body that can handle more, perform better, and stay healthy throughout the process.

👇 If you followed along with the Durable Athlete Series, which episode or lesson was your biggest takeaway?

We want to know what topics helped you the most so we can continue creating content that helps you become a stronger, healthier endurance athlete.

Save this series for later and share it with a training partner who wants to become a more durable athlete.

Your hamstrings do much more than just help you “push off” when you run.

They help:
✅ Control your leg as your foot hits the ground
✅ Stabilize your body as you move over your foot
✅ Assist with force production during push-off

That means strong, coordinated hamstrings are important for running efficiency and durability.

This progression takes a simple hamstring bridge and gradually challenges:
➡️ Strength
➡️ Core stability
➡️ Single-leg control
➡️ Hip stability

The biggest mistake?

Trying to progress too quickly.

Master the basics first:
✔ Control your hips
✔ Avoid rotating side to side
✔ Keep your core engaged
✔ Focus on quality reps over quantity

Your goal isn’t just stronger hamstrings…

It’s hamstrings that can handle the demands of running.

👇 Give this progression a try and let us know which version challenges you the most!

Save this exercise progression for your next strength session and share it with a runner who has struggled with hamstring or glute issues.

☕ Coffee before a run… yes or no?

Caffeine can be a powerful tool for endurance athletes, but the best strategy is the one that works for your body.

Some athletes swear by:
☕ Espresso
☕ Americano
☕ Black coffee
☕ Latte

Others find caffeine before training causes:
❌ Stomach issues
❌ Increased jitters
❌ Trouble pacing
❌ An uncomfortable run

The important thing is testing it during training...not on race day.

Your pre-run routine is something you can practice just like your workouts.

So we want to know…

👇 What’s your go-to coffee order before a run?

Drop your pre-run coffee routine below. We may feature some of your answers in future content!

Feeling tight doesn’t always mean you need more stretching.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see with endurance athletes is assuming that every limitation, ache, or stiff feeling is because a muscle is “tight.”

Sometimes the real issue is not a lack of flexibility… it’s a lack of strength, stability, control, or the ability to handle the demands you’re placing on your body.

If your tightness:
✅ Shows up as you fatigue
✅ Gets worse later in a run or ride
✅ Comes with your form breaking down
✅ Improves temporarily after stretching but keeps coming back

…it may be your body telling you it needs a different solution.

Mobility work and stretching can have their place, but they shouldn’t always be the first (or only) answer.

The goal isn’t just to move farther. The goal is to control the movement, tolerate the workload, and become a more durable athlete.

Have you ever spent weeks or months stretching something without actually fixing the problem?

👇 Tell us what you tried in the comments.

Share this with the person who is always stretching but still dealing with the same “tight” areas.

Most runners spend plenty of time training to move forward... but very little time training to react.

Running isn't just about producing force...it's about absorbing it, controlling it, and quickly producing it again with every step.

That's where today's drill comes in.

The Drop Squat to Quick Shuffle helps develop:

⚡ Faster foot turnover

⚡ Better cadence

⚡ Quicker ground contact

⚡ Improved balance and coordination

⚡ Reactive strength for running

Although it may look like a football drill, it's a valuable exercise for endurance athletes because it teaches your body to react quickly while maintaining control.

If you've dealt with recurring foot, shin, or knee discomfort, or you feel like your feet stay on the ground longer than they should, this drill can be a great addition to your warm-up or strength routine.

How to perform it:

✅ Start tall on the balls of your feet.

✅ Drop into a shallow athletic squat.

✅ Shuffle quickly a few steps to one side.

✅ Shuffle back to center.

✅ Stand tall and repeat.

Focus on staying quick, quiet, and controlled throughout the movement.

Think light feet...not loud feet.

Try 2–3 sets of 15–20 seconds, resting about 30–60 seconds between rounds.

As you improve, increase your speed while maintaining good posture and control.

💬 Have you ever used a reactive drill like this in your training?

The best training plan isn't the most complicated one. It's the one you can consistently follow.

One missed workout won't derail your progress.

But letting one missed workout turn into a missed week—or a missed month—can.

Too many endurance athletes get caught chasing the "perfect" training plan, trying to hit every pace, every interval, and every workout exactly as written.

The reality?

Life happens.

Work runs late.
The kids need you.
You don't feel 100%.
The weather changes.

The athletes who continue improving year after year aren't usually the ones with the fanciest training plans—they're the ones who keep showing up.

Maybe today's workout isn't perfect.

Maybe you only have 20 minutes instead of an hour.

Maybe you need to cut the workout short.

Do something anyway.

Every workout is another vote for the athlete you're becoming.

Consistency compounds.

Small actions repeated over weeks, months, and years will always beat occasional perfect workouts.

Stop chasing perfection.

Start building habits.

Your future self will thank you.

💬 What's helped you stay the most consistent with your training?

Is it:
🏃 A training partner?
📅 Scheduling workouts on your calendar?
🎧 A favorite podcast?
👟 Laying your gear out the night before?
💪 Something else?

Share your best tip below...you might help another athlete stay on track.

Earlier this week, one of our followers mentioned they felt like their knee wanted to collapse during one of our lateral bounding drills.

That's a great reminder:

Not every plyometric exercise is appropriate for every athlete.

Sometimes the best way to improve is by taking a step back and mastering a progression first.

Today's exercise - the Reverse Lunge to Hop - is a fantastic bridge between traditional strength training and more advanced plyometrics.

How to perform it:

✅ Step back into a controlled reverse lunge.

✅ Lower until both knees are close to 90° (or as far as your mobility comfortably allows).

✅ Drive forcefully through your front leg and perform a small explosive hop.

✅ Land softly.

✅ Stabilize before beginning the next repetition.

As you progress, you can reduce the pause between repetitions and make the movement more rhythmic—but only after you've mastered the landing.

Focus on:

✔️ Keeping your knee aligned over your foot.
✔️ Maintaining level hips.
✔️ Landing quietly and under control.
✔️ Producing power without sacrificing balance.

This drill helps develop:

💪 Single-leg strength
⚡ Explosive power
🦵 Knee and hip stability
🏃 Better control for running, trail running, and other endurance sports

Remember: The goal isn't to jump higher...it's to land better. Good landings build durable athletes.

💾 Save this drill for your next strength session.
🏃 Share it with a training partner who's working on single-leg stability.
💬 Comment below if you've tried this progression or have questions about when you're ready for more advanced plyometrics.
