UNC Carolina Air Care is proud to provide Critical Care Transport for the citizens of North Carolina and surrounding areas. To fulfill this mission we operate four helicopters, an airplane, and a fleet of ground ambulances. Our rotor wing bases are located at Chatham Hospital in Siler City, Aberdeen Fire Station #2 in Aberdeen, Wayne Executive Jetport in Goldsboro, and Nash General Hospital in Roc

ky Mount. The fixed wing aircraft operation is housed at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. When people think of Carolina Air Care, they often picture our helicopters soaring overhead. But some of the most critical transports happen on the ground.

Our Critical Care Ground Transport team delivers the same expert, ICU-level care that our patients receive in the air. Whether the journey is by helicopter or ambulance, our mission never changes.

What makes our program unique is that many of our nurses, respiratory therapists, and paramedics serve on both our air and ground teams. The mode of transportation may change, but the expertise, teamwork, and commitment to our patients remain exactly the same.

Excellence isn't defined by the vehicle; it's defined by the people inside it.

One team. One mission. Exceptional care, wherever the journey begins.

We do work hard, but sometimes it’s important to pause, take a breath, and enjoy the view.

Tarheel 2 had the chance to do just that this week, taking a few moments between calls to watch the sunset and appreciate the incredible views that come with the job.

Every day brings something different for our crews, and while we’re always ready to respond when the call comes in, we’re grateful for those quiet moments in between.

What’s the best view you’ve had from the job? Tell us in the comments!

We had a blast hosting the Junior Volunteers from UNC!

This incredible group had the opportunity to tour our ambulances and aircraft while learning more about careers in EMS and critical care transport.

We love connecting with the next generation of healthcare professionals and giving them a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to care for patients when every second counts. Who knows? We may have met some future members of the Carolina Air Care family!

Thank you for spending the day with us, we hope you had as much fun as we did!

Today marks a milestone that reflects four decades of dedication, teamwork, and trust.

For 40 years, Carolina Air Care has had the profound privilege of serving the people of North Carolina, responding in moments when seconds matter most and bringing critical care to patients and families across the state. In that time, we have impacted thousands of lives, each one representing a story of resilience, urgency, and hope.

This anniversary is not just about our program, it is about the communities, patients, and partners who have made this work possible. We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us, for the support of our referring facilities, EMS partners, and the communities we serve, and for the continued collaboration with UNC Medical Center.

We would not be here today without that support. Every mission flown, every patient cared for, and every outcome improved is a reflection of a shared commitment to providing exceptional critical care when it is needed most.

Thank you, North Carolina, for 40 years of trust.

Monday mornings bring a fresh start, new opportunities, and a renewed commitment to the communities we are privileged to serve. As the sun rises over North Carolina, we're reminded that every new week holds the potential to make a difference in someone's life. Whether it's a critical call in the middle of the day or the quiet hours before dawn, our crews stand ready to answer when they're needed most.

To the patients, families, first responders, healthcare partners, and communities who trust us, thank you. It is an honor to serve alongside you, and we never take that responsibility for granted. Here's to a safe, healthy, and hopeful week ahead. Wherever this week takes you, know that UNC Carolina Air Care is ready when every moment counts.

Storms may be rolling in, but being prepared is part of what we do every day. Whether the skies are clear or filled with dark clouds, our crews are ready to answer the call when our communities need us most. We have trucks available to move when the weather stands in our way.

That said... we wouldn't mind if someone packed an umbrella for the us.

Stay safe out there!

Flashback Friday

A logo is more than a symbol, it represents the people, the mission, and the communities we have had the privilege to serve.

For 40 years, Carolina Air Care has continued to evolve while staying grounded in the same commitment: bringing critical care when every second matters.

From our earliest days to the program we are today, each logo tells a piece of our story. Behind every design are thousands of missions, countless families, and the incredible teams who have carried this mission forward.

As we look back through the years, we want to hear from you…
