You start feeling better. You let your guard down. Then you look away for a second, and you slip.

🧠 I was walking behind my barn this week, looking at my phone instead of my feet, and twisted my ankle on one wrong rock. It stopped me cold, because I wasn’t watching the path in front of me.

That’s how it goes early in recovery from screen compulsions. The slip feels bigger than it is, like you’ve lost all your progress. You haven’t. It’s just a rock in the road. Put the screen down, lock in, and take one intentional step after another.

👉🏻 Tell me in the comments: where did you feel like you tripped this week? Naming the rock is the first step.

My son Declan made a good case over coffee this week: AI girlfriends are just the next step, like machines moving us from farms to factories.

But his question was “can we.” Mine was “should we.”

Here’s where I land, as a brain scientist and his mom: your brain wires around whatever you feed it most, and that thing you reach for at 11pm. So the real question is: is the screen holding your life up, or slowly becoming it?

Be honest, what’s the one thing you reach for at 11pm? Drop it in the comments below 👇

My daughter Saoirse had to compete on a horse she barely knew after hers came up too sore, at one of the biggest events of her season.

Her first round fell apart and she came out in tears, sure she’d blown it.

Then she took a breath, trusted her training, and rode the second round beautifully, finishing fourth and qualifying for the big stadium.

That medal came from staying in the arena after disappointment. That’s proof our brains get stronger every time we show up as life gets harder, every hard moment she pushed through wired her brain to handle the next one.

👉🏻 What challenge in your life ended up becoming something you’re grateful for? I’d love to read it in the comments.
