Michael Damien Bohmbach

Michael Damien Bohmbach, age 77, of Efland, North Carolina, passed away on February 13, 2024.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Russell Bohmbach; his mother, L. Marie Burns Bohmbach; his sister, Rill Marie Bohmbach; and his nephew, Zachary R. Barnier.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Marie Christ; his sister, Anne Barnier; his son, Peter S. Bohmbach; his grandchildren, Erin, Emily, and Patrick; his great-grandchildren Dean, Benjamin, Johann, and Emilio; and a large group of extended family and friends who adored him.

He was a brilliant, tender-hearted man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mary Belle Lawrence Bradshaw

Mary Belle Lawrence Bradshaw, a cherished soul born in Alamance County on June 18, 1933, peacefully passed away on June 14, 2026. Just four days shy of celebrating her 93rd birthday, Mary Belle's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, family, and simple joys that touched all who knew her.

Mary Belle was married in 1956, and throughout her life, she held her family as her proudest accomplishment. Her warmth and devotion were felt deeply by those around her, especially by her beloved daughter, Lisa Bradshaw, who provided loving care in Mary Belle's final days. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings—sisters Sarah Michael and Catherine Whitley, and brother Tommy Lawrence and many nieces and nephews and great friends—who continue to carry her memory in their hearts. She joins in eternal rest her son, Donald Lawrence Bradshaw, husband, Don Bradshaw, brother, Carlton Lawrence, whose loss is keenly felt by all.

A vibrant spirit, Mary Belle's found delight in many simple pleasures. She loved to read books. She loved her tablet, to play Puzzle games, providing both challenge and comfort in quiet moments. Mary Belle's adventurous heart often led her on long rides to savor great food, turning each journey into a cherished memory. Her love of shopping was well-known, sometimes spending hours just browsing, occasionally hiding new treasures from her husband, adding an element of playful surprise to her days.

Mary Belle's excitement for receiving packages brought delight to her daily life. The thrill of a surprise delivery was a reminder of the small joys that brightened her world. Alongside these, she had a special love for her grand puppies, whose presence brought her immense happiness and affection.

Mary Belle was also a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Mebane, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Through her kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit, she made lasting impressions that reached far beyond church walls.

As we remember Mary Belle Lawrence Bradshaw, we celebrate a life rich in love, laughter, and the quiet moments that bind us together. She leaves behind memories that will continue to inspire her family and friends, a legacy nurtured through the warmth of her heart and the depth of her spirit. Though she has departed this earthly realm, her light shines on in the lives of those who held her dear.

Mary Belle's journey reminds us all of the beauty found in simple joys, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring power of love. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured.

The family will hold services Monday, June 22, 2026, at Walkers Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane viewing at 9:30am and service at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery with a private ceremony.

Ricardo Jose Pinto

Ricardo Jose Pinto, a man whose warm spirit and diverse talents left a lasting impression on all who knew him, passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2026. Born on July 21, 1969, Ricardo lived a life marked by dedication to his family, friends, and community, embodying a character defined by wit, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

Ricardo was a beloved figure known widely for his exceptional skills in construction, particularly his expertise in drywall work. His craftsmanship was admired by many, and his work stood as a testament to his dedication and precision. Beyond the construction sites, Ricardo also brought joy and comfort to others through his culinary talents at the Mebane Waffle House, where he prepared meals with care and friendliness, becoming a familiar and cherished presence to patrons.

Family was the cornerstone of Ricardo’s life. He cherished his role as a devoted father to his daughter, Jessica Pinto, and son, Ricordo Pinto. His deep love extended beyond his immediate family, as he took great pride and joy in raising his foster son, exemplifying his compassionate nature. Ricardo’s warmth and friendliness were evident to all he met; he never met a stranger and could brighten any room with his quick wit and genuine smile.

Ricardo’s imminent marriage to his fiancée, Keli Scott, was a joyous milestone that celebrated their love and partnership. His family circle was enriched by his sisters, Sherylann McKenzoe and Jamy Awana, who remember him as a brother full of strength and affection.

A visitation to honor Ricardo’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home of Mebane, located at 304 W. Center St., Mebane, NC, 27302. This gathering will offer an opportunity for friends and family to come together to celebrate Ricardo’s remarkable life and the legacy he leaves behind.

Ricardo Jose Pinto’s life was one of heartfelt connections, hard work, and boundless generosity. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for the light he brought into the lives of all who knew him.

Angie Berry-Soares

Agnes (Angie) Helena Berry-Soares was born July 1, 1952 in Benscreek, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Michael Joseph Sady and Agnes Scoran Sady.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gilbert Soares of Efland, North Carolina and one son, Matthew Berry, wife Audrey Berry and granddaughter, Emma Marie Berry.

She is also survived by her brothers Edward Sady, Stephen Sady, Richard Sady, and Francis (Frank) Sady and wife Janet. Preceded in death by sister-in law Lois Sady in addition to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Also, by her step-son Timothy Soares, his wife Cara and grandchildren, Luke, and Sydney Soares.

Step-Daughter, Patti and husband Bryon Allred and grandchildren, Tyler and David Fraser, Brent and Taylor Allred, Kyle and Emily Allred. Along with four great grandchildren: Krastyn, Amelia, Callum, and Colsen.

Step-Daughter, Tina and Michael Tetreault and grandson, Nathanial.

Step-Daughter Diana Dollar and grandchildren Brandon and Brianna Andrew, and great granddaughter, Blazelynn Andrew. Step-Daughter, Teresa and husband Randy Dearr grandchildren, Greyson and wife Sarah Dearr , Grandson Charles and wife Jenna Dearr, and grandsons, James and Jacob Dearr, granddaughter Isabella Dearr, Annamarie and Shival Patel, along with three great grandchildren, Rebecca Dearr, Cole Dearr and Olivia Patel. Step-Son-in-law James Kearney and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Tiffney Kearney, and her brother Michael Sandy.

Angie enjoyed spending time with her extended family, traveling with her beloved husband, Gil, attending Bible studies, and enjoyed nature and working in her flower beds.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lamb’s Chapel’s Outreach Program in her memory.

A Memorial service will be held on May 28th, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Lamb’s Chapel (Airport Campus) 3539 Alamance Road, Burlington, North Carolina

David Lawrence Beaver

Mr. David Lawrence Beaver, 78, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Peak Resources in Graham, where he was cared for and had lived for the last year.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at Walker’s Funeral Home in Mebane. The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the service, and at other times at Terri’s home.

Mr. Beaver was born in Person County, NC, on November 1, 1947, the son of the late James Lawrence Beaver and Martha Josephine Childrey Beaver. Following his retirement, David enjoyed playing golf, fishing, playing poker, or shooting pool. But most of the time, you could find him spoiling his grandchildren, being their chauffeur for them and their friends. Many weekends were spent at the lake with his camper and pontoon boat, often working on one or the other.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Dunn Beaver, brothers, Gerald Beaver and Clint Perkins. Surviving are his children, Terri Beaver, Joel Beaver, and Tanya Beaver Bautista (Juan), sisters Evelyn Beaver Dickey (Freddy) and Sylvia Beaver Whitfield (Rick), eight grandchildren, and three great-grandsons, as well as a host of extended family, nieces, and nephews.

Jesse Ronald Oakley

Jesse Ronald Oakley of 226 Beauregard Lane, Mebane, North Carolina, passed away on March 27, 2026. The son of Jesse Roberds Oakley and Carrie Cheek Oakley, he was born in Mebane, North Carolina on April 23, 1941. He graduated from Mebane High School in 1959, earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in history at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1963 and a doctorate in education and history at UNC-Greensboro in 1979. He taught social studies and French at Mountain View School in Marietta, Georgia, in 1963-1964, and history at Davidson County Community College in Lexington, North Carolina for 37 years (1966-2003), and served as chairman of the Social Science Department there for seven of those years.

Ron was married to Kathryn Clay Oakley a month shy of 53 years. She was the love of his life, his soulmate. They shared a common love of books and book clubs, plays, travel, and vacations at the beach. For 47 consecutive years, they spent a week at the beach every summer with members of Ron’s and Kathy’s families

After Kathy retired from Lexington State Bank in 2008, she and Ron moved to Ron’s hometown, Mebane NC, to be close to his large extended family, which seldom missed an opportunity to gather for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, holidays, and other special family events. Their home in Mebane was “the gathering place” for most of these family events.

A great lover of books, Ron amassed a large collection of books and wrote five of his own: God’s Country: America in the Fifties, Baseball’s Last Golden Age: The National Pastime in a Time of Glory and Change, 1950-1960, Davidson County Community College: The First Forty Years, Images of America: Mebane, and Growing Up in Alamance County. He also wrote numerous columns and articles in newspaper and journals. A lifelong Democrat, Ron voted in every election supporting candidates who believe in working with all parties to provide a democracy that is fair and equal to everyone. He encourages everyone to use their opportunity to vote for the good of all people. Ron was a lover of music, from classical to pop to country, bluegrass and gospel, and over a fifty-year period amassed a large collection of vinyl records and music DVDs and CDs. His passion for books, history and education led to his extracurricular activities. Ron was a former president and Board Member of the Friends of the Lexington Library and after moving to Mebane became a Board Member of the Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries. He was also a Road Scholar presenter for the NC Humanities Council. He made numerous presentations to the Mebane Historical Society and to Haw River. After returning to his hometown, he was instrumental in creating the permanent exhibit for the newly established Mebane Historical Museum where he was a Board Member and former President.

To the very end Ron was thankful for the happy life he had led—his childhood, his parents and siblings, his teachers in Mebane schools and in college, his friends in Lexington and Mebane, his soda jerk job at Warren’s Drug when he was a teenager in the 1950s, his large extended family, his teaching jobs at Mountain View School and Davidson County Community College, and his good health for most of his life. If he could speak today, he would say “life was good.”

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Billy Oakley), an infant sister (Exie Mae), sisters (Velma Kelly and Colleen Payne), nieces (Debbi Kelly Garren and Diana Payne Lance and Lynn Oakley) and nephew (Mike Kelly). He is survived by his wife Kathy and four generations of numerous nephews and nieces including special nieces Brenda Crutchfield, JoAnn Caulder, grandnieces Laura Key, Jennifer Stovall and Leslie Hohl. Ron was much loved by their friend Traci Chisholm and by Kathy’s extended family.

A special Thank You to the staffs of the Twin Lakes Community’s Coble Creek Health Center neighborhoods of Cascades and Blue Ridge and The Harbor Program, the ICU staff of Cone Health Alamance Regional Hospital and his friend and caregiver, James Yarboro. Your kindness and care were comforting and much appreciated.

Edgar M. Roach, Jr.

Ed Roach’s struggle with pancreatic cancer and its complications ended April 1, 2026. We will miss his grin, special laugh, and good humor which never left him. Edgar Mayo Roach, Jr, was born in Pinehurst, NC, auspicious for an avid golfer, June 2, 1948, to parents Susie and Edgar M. Roach, Sr. Ed and his family later moved to rural Leaksville (now Eden), NC, where Ed spent his childhood through high school years. After undergraduate college years at Wake Forest University, where he was a Sigma Pi, he met and married his wife of 55 years, Deborah, in 1970.

They lived in Eden, NC, for a year, where he worked at the Eden News, earning a NC journalism award for his writing and money to go to Law School. They moved to Chapel Hill, NC, for him to enter the UNC School of Law; he earned a J.D. with Honors, in 1974, while also serving on the Board of Editors of the North Carolina Law Review

He then served as Law Clerk to the Honorable H. E. Widener, U. S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He and Deborah moved to Abingdon, Va., where Judge Widener conducted his court. While living in Abingdon, the Court of Appeals met in Richmond, VA, monthly, where Ed interviewed with Hunton and Williams for an associate job. After a few years of long hours, he became a partner, then moved to Raleigh, NC, in 1981, to establish a Hunton and Williams Raleigh office, incorporating with an existing firm. In his legal practice he represented power companies in their rate base hearings, working in several states—NY, Kansas, Texas, Virginia and North Carolina among them. During this time, he served as a member Hunton and Williams Executive Committee as well as the managing partner of the Raleigh office, developing its practice and mentoring young lawyers.

After years of travel to represent various power companies, he became a corporate lawyer for Virginia Power, moving to Richmond, VA. He served in several capacities there and with the parent company, Dominion. He served as Chief Financial Officer of Dominion, and, finally, as Chief Executive Officer of the Dominion Delivery Companies which included Virginia Power plus four other delivery companies. He always said “they were just trying to find something I could do.” During his time there, he and Deborah moved to Pittsburgh, PA, for a consolidation of power companies. In Pittsburgh, he enjoyed serving a term as President of the Western Pennsylvania Historical Society, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pittsburgh. He even delivered the opening pitch of a Pirates game.

In 2003, he decided to retire early and move back to NC, choosing Chapel Hill since Deborah wanted to live there. He became a Board Member of the NC Golden Leaf Foundation, then served as its Chairman for one term (2004-2007). He enjoyed reviewing many grants to eastern North Carolina for endeavors and education to replace the to***co industry there. Former Governor Mike Easley said that “Ed’s creative mind really provided basis for the project to buy Spirit Airlines, in 2007”, and recruit it to the eastern part of North Carolina, providing jobs and improved quality of life for those communities. Airbus has now purchased Spirit and plans to expand to offer even more jobs. Ed was proud that North Carolina has used and invested its to***co settlement monies so well.

As proprietors of a restaurant in Chapel Hill, Azure Grille, from 2006-2010, Ed and Deborah enjoyed meeting so many people from Chapel Hill and beyond, as well as its food. He always said the restaurant “was a success, just not profitable.”

During the restaurant years, the Raleigh office of McGuire Woods asked him to come out of retirement to work with them on some energy law projects. He was a partner there for six years, training young associates in energy law, retiring again in 2015.

Ed’s work and retirement years were full of travel, especially for golf endeavors, enjoying the courses of many countries, from Scotland, Ireland and England, to Australia and Tasmania; from the Old Course in St. Andrews to Royal Melbourne, Australia, as well as Barnbougle Dunes; and, all over the United States. He often said he played bad golf in some really pretty places, but he played well enough to make a hole-in-one at three different courses: Old Chatham, Eagle Point, and Diamond Creek! As much as he enjoyed playing golf, he also enjoyed telling others about courses, recalling every hole with his steel trap mind, and helping others plan golf trips.

In addition to his wife Deborah, he is survived by two sons; John, of Wilmington, NC, and Key West, Florida; Ted and his wife, Leah Bergman, and grandchildren, TJ, Rose and Mitch, of Chapel Hill, NC. He and Deborah enjoyed playing with the grandchildren, taking them often to the NC Zoo, museums, trips to Florida and a great trip to Yellowstone National Park and Montana.

As Ed received his cancer diagnosis, he looked at Deborah and said he had had a good run, a full life. To all his former colleagues, friends, and golf partners, please know how much he enjoyed the association with you. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral, just fond memories of his love of life, his intelligence and historical knowledge, folksy sayings, quick wit, golf stories and jokes, that “special” grin and “really special” laugh, as well as his knowledge of people far and wide.

He asked that memorials go to the Deanna Day Carolina Covenant Memorial Endowment Fund. As the first ones in our immediate family to go to college, the Covenant’s mission to educate other first generation students is important to us.
