A lot of parents come in describing the same dynamic.
The kid who was fine five minutes ago is now melting down over something that seems completely minor.
The advice they've gotten is usually some version of:
• Be more consistent
• Give consequences
• Don't give in
This isn't wrong exactly.
It's just working on the surface of something that goes a lot deeper.
The meltdown over the shoes isn't about the shoes.
It's the fourth demand in ten minutes landing on a brain that was already overwhelmed before it got out of bed.
Consequences don't directly speak to that.
Learning to read what's happening underneath changes everything about how you respond. 💛
