“Scholarship support has given me the freedom to dedicate time to mentorship and leadership activities without the added stress of financial constraints; engaging in these experiences has led to personal and professional growth I made not otherwise have had.” Thanks to hundreds of alumni donors, a record number of UNC School of Medicine students will receive scholarship support this upcoming year through the Medical Alumni Loyalty Fund Scholarship Program. Join fellow UNC School of Medicine alumni and friends on Saturday, November 14 as we celebrate Homecoming with a special pre-game tailgate event before the Tar Heels take on Louisville! A small block of game tickets will also be available. Save the date; invitation coming later in July!

Third year student Rachael Dorwart has been working with the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team this past season. We love seeing our students take advantage of unique opportunities to learn and grow professionally. Hear what she has to say about the experience:

“The experience this season with the Canes has been absolutely amazing! I work all game days with them and basically give a hand to help wherever it is needed. It has been so cool to be a part of the team and even work a Stanley Cup Final! Before the game, I set up the bench with all the medical and team equipment needed, help with pre-game treatments, and warm-ups. During the game, I am behind the bench just making sure everyone has what they need for the game, and assist the team doctors in all care in the event someone gets hurt. After the game, I help with the post-game lift, recovery, and make sure everything is in place for the next game day.”
