Robert Scott Smith
June 22, 1962 – August 4, 2026

Robert Scott “Opie” Smith of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away on August 4th, 2026 at the age of 64. He was born on June 22nd, 1962 to Robert and Hazel Smith in Prosperity, South Carolina.
After Graduating from Chapin High School, he went on to serve over 35 years with Lexington County in Chapin Fire Service and with Lexington County Sheriff’s Department as a Master Deputy.

He married Lillie Werts-Smith in 1990, together they shared 35 years. Scott was a proud father and Clemson fan. He was known for a kind and humorous personality that would make a memorable impression on those in his life.

He is survived by his wife, Lillie; daughter, Taylor-Marie; and sister, Crystal. He was predeceased by sisters, Connie and Michelle.

A visitation/memorial of ashes drop-in will be held at Caughman - Harman Funeral Home - Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036, on Saturday August 15th, 2026 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Scott will be missed greatly by those who knew him.

Wesley "Terry" Wilson Sr.
October 1, 1946 – August 2, 2026

Wesley "Terry" Wilson, 79, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2026.

Born on October 1, 1946, in Columbia, South Carolina, Terry lived a life marked by service and craftsmanship. Drafted into the United States Army, he proudly served his country stationed in Germany. Just prior to his military service he married the love of his life, Pat, on September 2, 1966.

Following his military service, Terry worked for many years alongside his brother, Tommy, in the car upholstery trade at Wilson Upholstery. Later in life, he turned his passion for automobiles into a business by opening Classic Auto Replicas in Chapin. For over 20 years, Terry welcomed local enthusiasts, collectors, and customers into his NASCAR store, where he built lasting relationships throughout the community.

Terry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia McQuitty Wilson; his daughter, Leslie Loftis (Kevin); his son, Wes Wilson (Honey); his granddaughters, Katie Davis (Lance) and Madison Loftis; and his great-grandchildren, Michael, Samuel, and Gabriel Davis.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Long Hughes; his brother, Tommy Wilson; and his cherished fur babies, Beau and B-Bop.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to MSA Hospice (Dee, Jackie, Brandy, and Temeka) for their dedicated care, compassion, and support during Terry’s final days.

A Celebration of Life service will be held graveside at 10:30 am, followed by visitation, on August 10th, 2026 at Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036.

Holt Beaver
November 30, 1934 – June 28, 2026

William Holt Beaver, 91, of Chapin, South Carolina went peacefully to be with the Lord on the evening of June 28, 2026. Born in Montgomery, West Virginia, Holt was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Holt Beaver and his father, Eugene “Gene” Beaver. Surviving are his wife, Grace Knight, and his sisters, Rebecca Beaver McCune, Diana Beaver Powers and Perey Beaver Riley.

Holt was a teacher both in school and in life, coaching football, teaching math and special education for over 50 years. He was a resiliently hard worker, working as a teacher, a football coach, a basketball coach and a West Virginia coal miner. The number of lives he touched teaching school was truly phenomenal, and he cared deeply about his students. He loved his community and family deeply and wanted to be included in everyone’s lives, including his 6 children, Lynn Braswell (Steve), Debbie Bail (Greg), Nancy Falin (Rex), John Beaver (Annette), Mike Beaver (Katherine) and Renee Mitchell (Rich) and his 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

For years, Holt’s family gathered at his land, nicknamed “The Farm,” to drink, eat and enjoy each other’s company. He truly built a legacy within his family, teaching his grandkids and great-grandkids everything he had to offer about canning jams, jellies and chow chow, pickling fresh cucumbers straight from the garden, playing pinochle without showing your cards and how to show up in the world with strength and love.

Holt Beaver will live on in our hearts and minds as a legend, a father, a grandfather and an all-around wonderful man.

Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Ave, Chapin, South Carolina 29036, on July 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm.

Joseph Anthony Swierupski

Joseph Anthony Swierupski, 70 years old, of Chapin, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, July 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Huntington, NY to Frank and Josephine Swierupski. He was a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his wife Maureen; their daughter, Sarah; son, Joseph and his wife Kari. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne and her husband Paul; Joe’s brother, Frank and his wife Anita; and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

A gathering to honor and remember Joe will take place on Sunday the 19th of July, 2026 between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Avenue Chapin, SC 29036.

Gloria Francis Hendricks
June 17, 1925 – June 21, 2026

Gloria F. Hendricks, 101, passed away on June 21, 2026. Born June 17, 1925, she was the daughter of Grace B. and C.A. Goodwin. Gloria lived a life marked by steadfast faith, quiet strength, and enduring devotion to those she loved. A resident of Chapin, South Carolina, she will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude by all who knew her.

Gloria attended Marshall University and dedicated many years to serving as an elementary school teacher in West Virginia. Her work reflected a steady, hard-working spirit—one that showed in the care she gave to her students and in the resilience with which she met each season of life.

A faithful presence in Chapin United Methodist Church, Gloria’s Christian devotion was central to who she was. Her love for the Lord guided her days and shaped the legacy she leaves behind—one of constancy, service, and a life lived with purpose.

Gloria also found joy in the warmth of home and family traditions. She was an accomplished baker, earning three state championship fruit cake cook-off wins at the South Carolina State Fair, and she also won the State Fair SPAM cookoff. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, offering them the kind of love that is steady, attentive, and lasting.

She is survived by her son, C.W. Hendricks (Becky); her son, Peter A. Hendricks (Dianne); her daughter, Kati Hendricks; her grandchildren, John Hendricks, Charley Hendricks, Elly Swindler, Drew Hendricks, Whitney Bolles, Allison Hendricks-Kol, David Clark, Zach Picken, and Jeff Picken; her great grandchildren, Oliver and Elliott Bolles, Marshal and Murray Grace Swindler, Riley Hendricks, Benjamin Hendricks-Kol, Brecken Hendricks, and Parker Hendricks; and her brother, James R. Goodwin (Linda).

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter W. Hendricks, and by six brothers and one sister.

The family would like to thank Betty Pellitier (NP) as her long term primary caregiver and Three Oaks Hospice for their care and support.

Sharon Frances Brantley

Sharon Frances Brantley, 59, was born on November 7, 1966, and passed away on June 15, 2026. A resident of Chapin, South Carolina, Sharon will be remembered with deep respect for the steady care she gave to others and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.

A high school graduate, Sharon carried forward a practical determination that shaped her path and the way she showed up for those who depended on her.

Sharon worked as a Registered Medical Assistant and devoted herself to caregiving, including her work at Lowman Home and Home Sitters. In these roles, she served with dignity and reliability, offering comfort through her presence and support through her hands and heart.

Sharon’s faith was central to who she was. An avid follower of Jesus, she was passionate about sharing her faith with others, living with a sense of purpose that shaped her days and touched those around her.

Sharon is survived by her mother, Frances Davis, of Chapin, SC; her son, Andrew Brantley (Rose), of Chapin, SC; her grandchildren, Joel, Julieann, Hailey, and Madison; her stepbrother, Ronnie; her special cousin/sister, Karen Blocker, of Athens, GA; her uncles, James Polk (Janice), of Walterboro, SC, and Robert Polk, of Lumberton, NC; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephew J.T. Davis, of Dexter, GA.

Sharon was predeceased by her father, Franklin Polk, and her brother, John Polk.

Sharon Frances Brantley’s life was one of service and steadfast devotion to family and community, and she will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 1811 Dutch Fork Rd., Irmo, SC 29063, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Janet F. Owen

Janet F. Owen, 79, passed away on June 9, 2026. Born January 17, 1947, Janet will be remembered as a cherished and devoted presence in the lives of those who knew and loved her. A faithful Christian woman, she loved the Lord and sought to reflect that faith through a kind-hearted spirit, steady care for others, and a warmth that could be felt in both quiet moments and shared laughter. Though written with respect, any remembrance of Janet would be incomplete without noting the gentle humor that so often brightened her days and the days of those around her.

For many years, Janet worked for Wells Fargo, serving with dedication and reliability. Her commitment in all she did at work, at home, and in her relationships spoke to a life marked by devotion and enduring love.

Janet also found joy and peace in gardening, a simple and meaningful pastime that reflected her patient nature and her appreciation for life’s steady, growing seasons.

Janet was preceded in death by parents, Evelyn Ellenburg and Ernest Richardson Floyd; her husband, Lawrence “Skip” Owen; her son, Chris Owen; her brother-in-laws, Jimmy Owen and Billy Owen; and her sister-in-law, Becky.

She is survived by her brother, Ernie Floyd (Audrey); her nephew, Ken Floyd (Stevie); her niece, Ellise Sherman (Jim); nephews, Bob, Phillip, Glenn, and Jamie Boris; her brother in law, Rick Owen (Sandy); and her brother in law, Dennis Owen.

The family extends special thanks to Elaine Jeko of Bishopville for her excellent and compassionate care, and to Suzanne Rapp with Amedisys Hospice for her tender care. Their kindness and support are gratefully acknowledged and will be long remembered.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 12, 2026 at Bush River Memorial Gardens in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel.

L.T. "Tommy" Wilson
March 16, 1943 – June 6, 2026

L.T. “Tommy” Wilson, Jr., 83, of Chapin, SC went to be with the Lord after a brief illness at Lexington Medical Center on June 6, 2026. Born on March 16, 1943, he was the son of the late Emma Long Hughes.

Tommy was a dedicated businessman who owned and operated Wilson Upholstery on Main St. in Columbia. He devoted more than 60 years to the upholstery trade earning the respect of his colleagues and customers through his hard work before retiring.

On March 18, 1961, Tommy married the love of his life, Mary “Debbie” Wilson. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and lasting memories. Their marriage was a testament to love, devotion, and partnership.

Tommy cherished time spent with his family and especially enjoyed being surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his daughter, Terri (Kevin) Frick; his grandsons, Josh (April) Frick and Jason (Justyne) Frick. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Trey Wilson, Kadey Roberts, Blythe Frick, and Avery Mynch. Tommy also leaves behind a brother, Wesley “Terry” (Pat) Wilson, a son-in-law, Tony Michau, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary “Debbie” Wilson and his daughter, Joanne Wilson Michau.

Tommy will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives through the family he loved so dearly.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Caughman Harman Funeral Home - Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Ave., Chapin, SC 29036. A memorial service will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Chapin Christian Community Church - Columbarium, 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036.

Betty Epting Moore
September 4, 1933 – May 30, 2026

Betty Epting Moore of Chapin, daughter of the late John and Pearl Epting, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Born in rural Chapin on September 4, 1933, she worked on the farm with her family. Her hard work never ceased as she raised a family of four children while working a full-time job at Bell South, from which she retired after 42 years of service.

Upon retirement, she gardened extensively – always producing an abundant crop and beautiful blooms. She was a life-long and dedicated member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a committed volunteer to many charities in her community. Her devotion to her grandchildren and great grandchildren was instrumental in their upbringing. Anyone who was blessed to know her knew she enjoyed staying active and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Moore, and granddaughter, Jill Moore. She was also predeceased by her brothers and their wives: Elon (Prema) Epting, Karl (Ester) Epting, Joe (Vertae) Epting and nephew, Timothy Epting.

Surviving are her children: Wanda (Gerald) Edwards, Mike (Harriett) Moore, Patti Moore, and Julie (Dan) Rhoad; grandchildren: Sara (Andrew) Simpson, Kendl (Joel) Mitchell, Tina (Jason) Moore, Nina (Ralph) Waldrop, Kinsey (Trey) Baker, Tori, Brett, and Jacob Rhoad; great-grandchildren: Mikee and Haleigh Mace, Harbour Simpson, Dianna and Savannah Moore, Coleman, Davis, and Anna Grace Waldrop, Rion and Savannah Baker. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 18, 2026 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2081 Dutch Fork Road, White Rock, South Carolina 29177. A private burial will be held before the service. The family will receive friends and family after the service in the Fellowship Building at the church.
