Full circle, small town moments. Mr. Bob Huff was my high school athletic trainer. He was one of the first to me when I tore my ACL my senior year. He spent hours taking care of me after that. We gave Bob a hard time and he gave it right back, but we all knew it was because Bob truly cared about us.

26 years later, Trainer Bob stopped by to say hello. It was awesome catching up for a few minutes. You don’t get moments like this everywhere. Thank God for small towns.

There’s plenty of reasons for PT despite limited weight bearing! Patient had an achilles repair after a basketball injury. Good leg training prevents loss of good leg strength/function AND can improve injured leg through cross muscle education.

Early rehab after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) emphasizes pain modulation, early motion, and restoration of muscular function. Combinations of hand-on stretching and soft tissue techniques along with active motion and exercise can help restore some normalcy to daily life.

🔑 Pain/swelling control: Elevation, ice, compression stockings, and movement all can help.

🔑 Restore full knee extension early! It's uncomfortable, but getting it early will help normalize gait and reduce pain in weight bearing. Nothing under the knee!

🔑 Movement and exercise helps all the above! It modulates pain, improves range of motion, and helps restore muscle function.

Recently seen an odd complication after a shoulder replacement. These patients may notice difficulty making an "OK" sign, pinching objects, buttoning clothes, or picking up small items. One possible cause is a rare condition called Anterior Interosseous Nerve (AIN) Palsy.

What is the AIN?
The AIN is a branch of the median nerve that controls important muscles in the forearm responsible for:
✅ Bending the tip of the thumb
✅ Bending the tip of the index finger
✅ Helping with precision pinch and grip activities

⚠️ Signs of AIN Palsy
Difficulty making an "OK" sign
Weak pinch strength
Trouble gripping small objects
Difficulty with fine motor tasks
Usually no numbness or tingling

🤔 Why Can It Happen After Shoulder Surgery?
Although uncommon, AIN palsy may occur due to:
Stretching of the nerves during surgery
Positioning of the arm during the procedure
Temporary nerve irritation or swelling
Effects of regional anesthesia (nerve block)

📈 Will It Get Better?
Most cases improve over time as the nerve recovers. Recovery can take several weeks to months depending on the severity of the nerve injury.

Maintaining hand and upper extremity function
Improving strength as the nerve recovers
Providing exercises to prevent stiffness
Helping patients safely return to daily activities
