FCMC is an independent 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, Birth Center, Rural Health Clinic & Urgent Care located in the charming northeast Iowa river town of Charles City.

Eight years ago, Dave had his left knee replaced by orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Clark.

When pain began to develop in his other knee, Dave decided it was time to have another total knee replacement. After the success of his first total knee replacement, Dave knew he wanted Dr. Clark to replace his right knee 👍

🚨 Good news alert!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA) has announced its approval of a $27.5 million loan for FCMC to embark on Phase II of our construction plans ✨

The project, which is Phase II of FCMC’s expansion plans, will be a one-story addition with five new operating rooms, increased space for the materials management department, and a new cafeteria and kitchen.

FCMC anticipates that Phase II will take approximately two years to build and hopes to break ground in the fall of 2026.

“We are grateful for the USDA and their commitment to supporting rural, critical access hospitals like FCMC,” said Dawnett Willis, MBA, chief executive officer at FCMC.

“This loan for Phase II will bring FCMC into the future of healthcare and allow our hospital to have space and opportunities for continued growth.”

FCMC recently completed its 2026 strategic planning process, bringing together trustees, medical staff, leadership, employees, and community stakeholders to define the organization’s next phase of growth and service to the region.

Facilitated by Capstone Leadership Solutions, the multi-day process combined data analysis, stakeholder input, and collaborative working sessions to identify both FCMC’s greatest strengths and the opportunities ahead.

The resulting strategic direction centers on a clear commitment: ensuring patients have a trusted healthcare partner who not only provides high-quality local care but also helps guide them through every step of their healthcare journey—whether services are delivered locally or beyond the community.
