Darlene Martin Weaver Shirk, 53, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, in her home in New Hampton, Iowa. Born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Darlene lived a life marked by faith, family, generosity, and a deep love for others.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the New Haven Mennonite Community Center in New Haven, Iowa. Burial will take place at the Living Hope Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Living Hope Mennonite Church in rural Charles City.

Helen Hagen, 85, formerly of Charles City, Iowa, passed away on August 17, 2026, while living in Raleigh, North Carolina.

A funeral service for Helen Hagen will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, beginning with a visitation at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Oakland Lutheran Cemetery in rural Albert Lea, Minnesota.

In honor of Helen and her love of flowers and gardens, Cathy and Carol invite friends and family to wear floral or colorful, church-appropriate attire to celebrate the beautiful garden of family and friends she cherished.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Riverside Assisted Living in Charles City, Iowa; The Addison of Knightdale, North Carolina; Sunrise Senior Living and Amedisys Hospice Care in Raleigh, North Carolina, for their compassionate care of Helen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Linda H. Girkin, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 77 years old. Linda will be remembered for the love she poured into her family, the quiet strength she carried through every season of life, and the countless ways she cared for the people around her.

A memorial service for Linda Girkin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, Iowa with Pastor Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Saturday.

Sandra “Sandy” Kuykendall, 75, of Floyd, Iowa, passed away on August 12, 2026, in Charles City, with her husband, Mark by her side. Her daughters, Niki and Brandi, four surviving sisters, Bonnie, Debby, Janene and Sharon, and her nieces Tina and Maddie, were also present during her final hours, surrounding her with the same steadfast family bond that had shaped her life from the beginning.

Those who knew Sandy are invited to join her family at a celebration of Sandy’s life, which will be held at the Floyd Community Center on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. where a light lunch will be served. A private interment at Sunnyside Memory Gardens will follow.

Gerald “Jerry” Meyer, 81, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Meyer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday. In honor of Jerry, the family encourages those attending the visitations to share their favorite stories and memories of time spent with him enjoying the outdoors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be sent to Elks Club, Pheasants Forever, National Turkey Federation, Lions Club or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
