Listen, I’m all for RFK getting red dye out of our foods, but I’m also a realist. We cannot continue to operate within a capitalist system that promotes profit over people ALWAYS. These politicians are all shills for giant, multi-billion dollar corporations that will let nothing affect their bottom line.
Our government is a constant revolving door from executives in the private sector (ie: Big Food) getting appointed to political positions to further their agenda: sell cheap food to the American public. Eliminating an ingredient here or there is not going to move the needle, and it grossly ignores the social determinants of health, like low income people having a lack of access to healthcare, being targeted with junk food, the food that’s available in their neighborhoods, what goes on sale and when, targeted ads for fast food on public transportation, etc. The system is broken and it needs to be destroyed and rebuilt from the ground up.

⁣💦Let's talk COLD PLUNGE💦 My girlfriend took me to a wellness center last week for my bday and I participated in my first ever cold plunge⠀

Honestly I HATE being cold and thought I'd absolutely loathe the plunge, but it turned out that I LOVED it. I felt so invigorated, strong, happy. The best part was that I really got into my deep, nourishing breathing, which has spilled over into my life. I really can't wait to go back. ⠀

Benefits of cold plunge include reduced inflammation, improved mood, deeper breathing, lymphatic draining, stimulation of the vagus nerve and so much more. Have you/would you try it??⠀⠀⠀⠀

⁣Anyone else get a touch of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) this time of year? Here are some tips to combat it:⠀

-expose your eyes to sunlight as early as you can, doing this literally improves mood, mental clarity and circadian rhythm (bonus points for sunrise walks like this picture!) ⠀☀

-optimize your vitamin D, while above 30 is in the normal range, I like to see it above 60⠀

-sleep! it's the season to rest, try to get eight solid hours⠀

-eat well and eat warming foods like soups, broths, stews, hearty dishes with protein, veggies, healthy fats and root vegetables in season ⠀

- what would you add?⠀

I don’t often acknowledge my grief on Instagram because it feels too personal and really, I just don’t know what to say. It hits me in waves, usually when I’m alone, often when I’m driving or a song comes on that reminds me of my parents. So I cry, sometimes in public, sometimes quietly, sometimes I scream. The pain and sadness hasn’t lessened, I’ve just better learned to live with it I guess. I wish I had more time, that I tried harder to get my parents help, I wish that my boundaries didn’t end up building a wall around my life they couldn’t get through. The regret and deep, deep sadness are unlike anything I’ve ever known. There’s such a finality to death. I don’t think I’ll ever not carry the deep sadness, but at least it connects me to my parents in some way. I’m getting better at allowing it to come and go, and getting better at realizing that all emotions do. They are not permanent, they are not wrong or bad, they just are. And the more we recognize that, the more we can come back to ourselves with a sense of calm and acceptance.
PS - the Sackler family are reprehensible drug dealers. Let's not forget that nearly a million people have died from their synthetic he**in, yet millions of Black people sit in jail for minor w**d offenses. My mother always said doctors were just glorified drug dealers, and I fear that is truer than ever with the revolving door between the FDA, pharmaceutical companies, and their influence on medical curriculum

Need ideas for what the f to do with all that leftover turkey? Make my turkey pot pie soup! You can easily make bone broth by throwing the turkey carcass in a crockpot or big pot on the stove, add onions, carrots, celery and a ton of salt and simmer the hell out of it until it is a gelatinous, flavorful, brothy beauty. Get the rest of the recipe at the link in my bio here -->

⁣Its concerning to me that as a society, and among younger people in particular, vilifying animals has become the norm.⠀

It’s more accepted to see rows and rows of monocrops grown, devoid of nutrition, sprayed with toxic chemicals, destroying the soil - all in the name of health and sustainability.⠀

Nature doesn’t operate individually. We need biodiversity. We need plants AND animals. When left to roam freely, Animals fertilize the land and increase biodiversity in the soil.⠀

The health of the soil is the health of our earth. It’s not just dirt. Soil feeds us, prevents drought, stops floods, sequesters carbon and literally protects the earth. We need animals to keep it healthy. Not fake burgers grown in a lab.⠀

⁣An Environmental Working Group study found that women, on average, apply 168 chemicals to their bodies everyday via skincare, makeup, lotion, soap, shampoo, perfume, etc. Of those, majority have not been tested for safety. And is there any safe limit of those that have been tested and are carcinogenic or estrogenic - like parabens, fragrance, diazolydinyl urea, parafin and so many others?⠀

1 in 3 women will develop cancer in her lifetime, and most of those cases are not genetic - they're environmental. We have to take better care of our bodies and each other. This is why I review so many companies and why i make and sell my own non-toxic body products, because women deserve better. We deserve to not worry about our foundation having ingredients linked to cancer and hormone imbalance. ⠀

For truly non-toxic skincare that works (or I'll give you a 100% refund!), go to the link in my bio and use code BLACKFRIDAY for 25% off --> ⠀
