Hey everyone! I wanted to take this chance to re-introduce myself for those who may be new here! This post also includes some new education that hasn’t been previously shared 💜

My name is Krista Parcell and I’m the CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) behind Transitions Midwifery. I have been a midwife for 11 years now and started Transitions Midwifery almost 5 years ago 🤯 I have been married to my husband George for 21 years and we have 3 teenage children.

My ultimate goal is to bridge the gaps between healthcare and home birth, providing a safe alternative for women to deliver outside of the hospital!

This is a long post but hopefully an informative one!

When people find out that I attend home births, the reactions are quite diverse! I have come to understand that many aren’t fully aware of what prenatal care and home birth with Transitions Midwifery looks like. I wanted to take this opportunity to list a few facts and answer any questions that you may have.

💜 Home birth isn’t for everyone but it should be considered an option for most

💜 I am a licensed independent provider in WV and KY with experience in attending births in hospital, birth center and at home

💜 I attend births within a 2 hour radius of Charleston, WV (excluding Ohio)

💜I was an ER nurse for 8 years prior to becoming a midwife. I also worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the ER for 2 years before attending home births

💜 Prenatal appointments can begin as soon as you have a positive pregnancy test. Routinely, we meet monthly until the third trimester, every 2 weeks from 28-36 weeks and then weekly for the last 4-6 weeks of pregnancy

💜 Prenatal visits aren’t rushed and typically last 1-2 hours. This allows time to not only answer any questions but for us to get to know each other as well (A key component of midwifery care). There are no wait times!

💜 I accept only 5-6 clients due per month.

💜 The total cost for prenatal care, home delivery and postpartum care is $5000. Payment plans are available and the total cost is due in full by 36 weeks. After babies birth, a claim can be submitted to insurance and you are reimbursed whatever they pay.

💜 I collect all labwork myself and it is then processed through either LabCorp. You have the option to include genetic screening if desired. All results are reviewed by me and you are kept well-informed.

💜 I can order ultrasounds! In most low-risk pregnancies, only 1-2 are performed.

💜 I can write prescriptions and carry medications to births including antibiotics, IV fluids, oxygen, hemorrhage management medications and others

💜 You call me when labor begins and I come to you! There will also be an assistant present for the birth.

❤️ You have the option to see me for prenatal care and still plan a hospital birth!

💜 I don’t administer epidurals but you can walk, sleep, shower, move and eat during labor!

💜 Fetal monitoring is performed during labor intermittently with a doppler.

💜 You have the option to utilize a birth pool to assist with pain management in labor and for water birth.

💜 Midwives are trained to not only manage emergent situations but to identify them early and to consult and transfer if home birth is no longer safe or desired.

💜 I can suture and perform laceration repair if indicated

💜 Postpartum visits are performed within your home as well as newborn metabolic screening collection

💜 I can file a birth certificate with the state and obtain a SSN for your newborn

💜 Newborn hearing screening is performed outpatient

💜 Care with Transitions Midwifery and home birth is significantly cheaper than hospital birth. Although payment is out-of-pocket, payment plans are available. Insurance is billable after delivery and anything paid is given as a reimbursement.

💜 If any further questions, please comment or send a private message.

💜 Please share this post show that others can become educated as well!ge
