Charleston County Medical Society

Charleston County Medical Society The local unit of the South Carolina Medical Association In this capacity it continued to function until 1951.

The Charleston County Medical Society (CCMS), founded in 1951, is a lineal descendant of the first medical society of the state, the Medical Society of South Carolina (MSSC). This older society was established in Charleston in 1789 with a view to developing a statewide membership. In 1848 it became one of the component district societies, which made up the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA)

. When the districts of the state were divided into counties, the Medical Society of South Carolina assumed the status of a county society. In that year the complexities of managing Roper Hospital, which it owned, had become sufficiently great enough that a new and independent group dedicated entirely to the organizational affairs of physicians and their patients was needed. The Charleston County Medical Society was created for that purpose and replaced the older society as the local unit of the South Carolina Medical Association while the Medical Society of South Carolina has continued to operate Roper Hospital, The SCMA is, in turn, a component of the American Medical Association (AMA). Thus it is through the local, state, and national associations that individual physicians are represented in their efforts to improve medical care to their patients.

CCMS members Dr. Andre Uflacker and Dr. Natalie Freidin recently traveled to Gaza as volunteers, providing medical care and humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Their willingness to serve others during a time of great hardship reflects the compassion, dedication, and humanity that define the medical profession. We are proud to call them members of the Charleston County Medical Society and grateful for the example they set through their selfless commitment to caring for others.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Uflacker and Dr. Freidin for their extraordinary service and the difference they continue to make, both at home and abroad.

At CCMS, our mission is simple: bring physicians together in support of the profession of medicine and the patients we serve. ๐Ÿฉบ

We believe medicine should remain a passion not just a job. Through connection, advocacy, and community, CCMS is creating a stronger future for physicians across our city and state.

Because when physicians support one another, everyone benefits. ๐Ÿค

Recap on Aprils' Tip from the Physician Health & Wellness Program:
Simplify and streamline your weekly fuel routine to make it less dauntingโ€“ and more realistic, using the following tips before shopping and meal prep:

Before Shopping: Look at the week ahead and determine what is realistic. Is this a week where prepared foods are in order, and/or are there days when you can cook?

While Shopping: While grocery shopping, continue to be realistic. What types of grab-and-go food will you need or have time to eat?

After Shopping: When you come home from the store, immediately wash and prep any fruit or vegetable before putting them in the refrigerator, and/or prep portions in advance.
