Dr. Casie Morgan, a clinical assistant professor in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division attended the American Psychological Association (APA) Annual Convention as a presenter/mentor and as a board member of the APA Division 46 (Society of Media Psychology). Saying “no” to a research study doesn't always mean saying “no” to help.

That's what Dr. Erin McClure, Dr. Kelly Barth and their MUSC colleagues at the MUSC Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences found when they looked more closely at patients who chose not to participate in a study after being treated for an opioid overdose.

Many of those patients still wanted treatment for substance use. For some, it simply wasn't the right time.

By understanding what was behind those decisions, the team hopes to find better ways to connect with patients and make research easier for more people to take part in.

Lauren Mello (pictured right), a research coordinator for clinical trials in the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, presented at the American Psychological Association (APA) Annual Convention.

Her project titled, “Sleep-Eating Connection: A Systematic Review of Trends, Methods, and Gaps” synthesizes evidence on the relationship between sleep disturbance and eating behaviors, to better understand the role of sleep health in shaping eating behaviors. She was mentored by Dr. Casie Morgan in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division.
