Gary LOVES running, but his back pain and stiffness was preventing him from running more than a couple of miles.

One of his initial goals was to run the bridge run, which he crushed ✅

Now, he’s running, lifting weights, and making progress every month.

Last weekend, he ran the Floppin’ Flounder and was SO close to his goal of a sub-18 min 5k!

Keep up the hard work Gary — we’re grateful for your trust and pumped to see you keep working towards your goals! 🤘🏼

we get it Chris, the cold brew is one of the main reasons we come here too 😅

I want to share something that happened this week - because I think a lot of people need to hear it.

One of our patients came to us in October. Pilates instructor. 10 years of back pain. She'd already tried PT, chiro, dry needling, all of it.

She'd stopped CrossFitting. Stopped deadlifting. Stopped back squatting. She told us she didn't think she'd ever lift heavy again.

She just wanted to wake up without pain.

That's what chronic pain does. It doesn't just hurt - it changes your whole identity. You stop doing the things you love. You start building your life around avoidance. And eventually, you can't even remember what it felt like to just move freely.

When she came in, she basically said: "I'll try this, but I doubt anything will change."

So we didn't try to fix everything at once. We didn't load her up with heavy exercises or manual therapy. We just started gradually rebuilding - small movements, low stakes, scaling back the moment she felt hesitant or had a bad day.

This week...

she deadlifted over 100 pounds.
without pain.
after years of thinking that part of her life was over.

She's back to CrossFit. She's teaching pilates without fear. She said she honestly never thought she'd get back to this point.

If you've been dealing with pain for months or years and you're starting to believe this is just how it is - please read this week's blog.

You're not broken. You've just never been shown how to actually build your way back.

hot take: your back hurts because you never move it 👀

Our spines were designed to move in MANY different directions

But most people have been told to only ever move with a “neutral spine” to “protect their backs”

So they avoid rounding twisting or bending, and they live life like the tin man

They lose the ability to move and load their back

They get stiff, weaker, and less capable

And then they wonder why their back gets hurt so easily.

When we never move out of the “neutral” zone, our backs get super unprepared and weak in any other movement or position

But we have SO many back muscles that were designed for movement - as well as a spine that was built to flex, rotate, extend, and bend…

Why would we be able to move in those ways if we weren’t supposed to?

Your back doesn’t need more rest or avoidance. It isn’t fragile.

It needs to be more PREPARED.

"Sitting is the new smoking."

You've heard it. I've heard it. And honestly? It's a bit dramatic.

Sitting itself is not bad for you. Your body was literally made to sit.

But being completely sedentary all day sitting for hours with zero movement breaks, no walks, no exercise - that IS a problem.

If you work from home or have a desk job, here are 3 things that actually help:

Stop trying to hold "perfect posture" all day - it doesn't exist. Change positions, slouch, fidget, move. Set a 20-minute timer if you need a reminder.

Walk any chance you get. Lunch break, phone calls, before or after work. Even a 10-minute walk is genuinely beneficial.

Schedule 3-5 workouts per week doing something you actually enjoy - ideally with people you like.

You don't need to start all 3 at once. Just pick one.

This week's blog breaks it all down - including why the position itself isn't the issue, and what actually is.

If you have shoulder pain and all you do is add a bunch of “rotator cuff” exercises, you’re adding stress to an already stressed-out shoulder.

The pain is a signal that you’ve been doing too much — we can’t add water to an overflowing cup.

I have never been so happy to be on dry, flat ground in my life.

Throughout this whole trip, I kept having moments of: wow, I’m so grateful to be physically capable.

To be able to lug my overpacked suitcase(s)

To be able to walk 25k+ steps per day

To be able to somehow not die on this hike

I felt so grateful for every hard thing I’ve done in the gym that allowed me to have the freedom to say yes - the freedom to do what I wanted without fear or pain or my body holding me back.

THIS is movement freedom.

yes, we have to work for that freedom. we have to earn it. but having that freedom determines our quality of life.

& the actions you take and habits you instill NOW have a massive impact on your life LATER.

The things we avoid, the workouts we skip, the injury we put off addressing…

have a massive impact on our lives LATER.

Every single workout, run, group class, and hard thing adds an opportunity to your life - like adding an exercise token you get to spend enjoying life.

What are you doing NOW so you can say yes LATER?
