We are excited to share our recent publication in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Case Lessons.

Bilateral Globus Pallidus Internus Deep Brain Stimulation in Medication-Refractory Dystonia Secondary to Infantile Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis: Illustrative Case

This case report describes a rare pediatric patient with severe generalized dystonia following infantile acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) who underwent bilateral globus pallidus internus (GPi) deep brain stimulation (DBS). Although significant clinical improvement was not observed, the case highlights the importance of careful patient selection and the potential impact of symptom onset and disease duration on DBS outcomes.

Negative and neutral findings are valuable contributions to science. Sharing these outcomes helps inform clinical decision-making, guide future research, and improve our understanding of complex neurological disorders.

Congratulations to all of the co-authors and collaborators on this publication!

Week 3 in the books for our MIND summer interns and what a week it was! 🧠✨

This week, our interns leveled up their skills with Sectra training, learning to navigate neuroimaging like pros. They got an inside look at the MRI suite, seeing firsthand what goes into the scans that power our research. 🩻

We kept the learning going with a neuroanatomy lecture, followed by a Kahoot showdown, because nothing motivates quite like competing for baked goods! 🍪🏆

Interns also dove into the research process, working to shape research questions rooted in their own interests and curiosity. And we couldn’t be prouder of one of our Flex medical students, Jareer, who presented their MIND research at the Flex poster session! 📊

From the MRI suite to the podium, this was a week for the books. Onward to week 4! 💪

MIND 2026 would not have been possible without the incredible team working behind the scenes every step of the way.

Thank you to Dr. Nathan Rowland, Jess Colona, Alese Berry, M. S. Zobaer, Ethan Rosenblum, Terry Roddey, and Jess Montalvo for your dedication, long hours, and unwavering commitment to making this year’s conference a success. Your hard work helped create an amazing experience for our speakers, attendees, students, and volunteers.

Here’s to an unforgettable MIND 2026! 🧠✨
