PREP is a one-year post-baccalaureate program, offered in partnership with the College of Charleston, that prepares students for medical school through rigorous coursework, advising, and mentorship before matriculating into the MUSC College of Medicine.

Congratulations to our newest cohort, our incoming COM student, and the other 2 successful PREP alumni who joined us today!

This summer, three MUSC medical students received the Center for Global Health Student & Trainee Travel Grant to work in communities worldwide. They partnered with locals, improved their clinical skills, and gained new cultural perspectives on care.

We’re incredibly proud of these students for representing MUSC on a global stage and bringing home experiences that will shape the physicians they become.

Grant recipients and where they served:
• Amelia Hilton - Soddo, Ethiopia
• Michaela Close, M.D. - San Salvador, El Salvador
• Claudia Satzke - Soddo, Ethiopia

We are excited to share that our MUSC Alcohol Research Center has been renewed, allowing us to continue advancing research on alcohol misuse through 2031.

For 35 consecutive years, our center has been recognized as an NIH-funded Center of Excellence, bringing together researchers across MUSC to improve understanding, prevention, and treatment of alcohol misuse and its impact on health.

Thank you to our outstanding faculty, staff, trainees, collaborators, and partners who make this work possible. We look forward to continuing to advance research that improves lives.

Six weeks of dedication, perseverance, and hard work came to a close today as we celebrated our nine Summer Institute participants.

These participants spent the summer immersed in MCAT preparation under the guidance of current medical students. They have been each other's biggest supporters this summer and will continue to build these relationships through medical school, residency, and as physician colleagues.

We are so proud of their commitment and growth, and we can’t wait to see the next steps in their journeys toward medicine!

Throughout the summer, our Summer Institute students had the opportunity to connect with College of Medicine faculty and staff during our Lunch and Learn series.

These sessions gave students valuable insight into a variety of medical fields, strategies for MCAT success, and advice for pursuing future careers in medicine.

We are incredibly proud of everything these students have accomplished this summer and can't wait to celebrate them at tomorrow's Summer Institute Closing Ceremony!
