I just saw this patient of mine today, now a little over a year from the first stage of reconstruction of a complex defect of her nose from skin cancer removal. She was missing skin from her nasal tip, the areas beside the tip, and the columella, which is the central portion of the nose between the nostrils. The skin you see in the after photos came from her forehead. With her first surgery, I took skin from the forehead near her hairline, and left it connected to her eyebrow for 4 weeks to provide blood flow for the new skin of the nose. Then I removed the tissue connection in a second stage operation. Then about 10 months later, with the third and final stage of her reconstruction, I refined the contours of her nose to get it back to as normal appearance as possible. She still has a little swelling and redness, but these will continue to fade over time. She is so happy to have her nose restored, and I am glad that she now has this all behind her!
